Actually neither Squint nor myself said any such thing. It was you that made the exclusionary comment that steroids don't help you hit homeruns.

This really isn't on topic but...Kirk Gibson circa '88 World Series comes to mind.

Fair enough, but I meant more with regularity over a career and such. Picking up his back foot to hit a HR? what a no-no, hah...

That being said - I don't agree with steroids and I think anyone that tests positive (I'm talking the people that don't have LEGITIMATE [i.e. doctor prescribed for recovery] reason for taking them, or only to get a boost) and it is confirmed should be thrown out of baseball for good.

So, following you and Squints thinking, do you think that average MLBers could take roids and become superstars? How much do you really think it helps?

Are you saying I had to actually WITNESS a player play before I can consider him great?...I didn't realize I had such a wide sweeping influence on greatness. I like it!
                        You're reachin' BK....like I said before....my opinion...

But you're right....I'm sure if I would have seen Cobb play...I would have realized that his .366 lifetime batting average was just a fluke and he actually sucked.

Besides, he was a former bridgebuilder...but for much different reasons...so okay take him out and replace him with ANOTHER guy who was better than bonds(I came in here to edit the b to a capital....but I kinda like it that way...it fits him).... Joe D....no wait...another.......how about Ted Williams?....no scratch that...aw heck....I can't pick one when there are so many more...

Dude, your definitely reaching saying Joe D was a better player than Barry Bonds. IMO that comparison isn't even close.

Now Teddy Ballgame I can agree with, but Dimaggio? Come on now.

Or if Ruth played in a league with 30 teams, watered down pitching talent, smaller ballparks, plane trips instead of train trips and better equipment what kind of damage could he have done?

When Ruth played there were 12 teams consisting of only white players. Most of the major league teams had 10 or more farm teams so there were plenty of very good white players who didn't play in the majors back then along with players of other races. Plus, participation in baseball was starting to reach its peak because kids didn't play other sports like they did baseball so there were plenty of talented players available.

There is no way you can say the level of competition was less when Ruth played when you factor in the number teams compared to today regardless of the exclusion of players of color.

I think it helps stars become superstars (McGwire), average players become All-Stars (Brady Anderson), and Hall of Famers become the best player of all time (Bonds).

Right, it was not illegal in this country to purchase steriods in this country before 2004. I remember being able to buy them at Wal-Mart right after Ben Johnson won the Gold medal in 1988. Also, I remember going to McDonalds and getting some HGH with my chicken nuggets the day Lyle Alzado died in 1992.

Of course, if MLB doesn't start testing for it until 2004 it couldn't have been illegal in this country because MLB sets the standard for this country.

                              I gotcha and stand corrected.

Co-signed. Steriods turn routine outs to doubles off the wall and double off the wall into homers.

If you don't think steriods can change the distance you can hit a ball you should have seen those 'roid monkeys hitting softballs off the back wall of the Metrodome last week.
