      Re: A-RODS future?

ARod has told the Yankees he is not interested in negotiating a new deal during the season. Rodriguez said "I think it would be selfish on my part to talk about my contract status when our team so desperately needs wins". The Yankees have said that if Rodriguez opts out of his contracts they will not negotiate with him, they will not get in to a bidding war.

Sounds to me that either Rodriguez is trying to force the Yankees hand and make him an offer he can't refuse or he that we may be seeing the last of ARod in Yankee pinstripes.

Why would the Yankees want to get rid or A-rod? He has to be one of the top 3 players in the game.

I think the Yankees are going to try their best to get A-Rod to sign to an extension so Texas will still have to pay.

But if Boras won't even discuss it and won't do anything but opt out, I'd be shocked if the Yankees stuck to their word and didn't try to sign him.

Yankees need A-Rod, I think they'll end up doing whatever they possibly can to keep him.

This is going to come down to who blinks first. I say the Yankees end up caving to AROD and give him what he wants, after he opts out (Boras won't let him sign an extension unless its for an absurd amount of money).

I don't think they want to get rid of Rodriguez...they just don't want to bid for him on the open market which is why they want to get him signed before the end of the season. The Yankees must be thinking that with the offensive numbers Rodriguez is putting up and the terrible year that the team is having that ARod is likely to opt out of his contract, even if only to get more money from the Yankees to stay. I think the Yankees would rather avoid that than take the chance of losing Rodriguez, Posada and Rivera in the same offseason since it is very possible that two of those three players will play elsewhere next year.

                Re: A-RODS future?

Honestly, it is ridiculous for the Yankees to even be worried financially when it comes to Rodriguez, Rivera, and Posada.

This is why Rivera and Posada are pissed with the organization and the handling of their free agent status.

The Yankees have been quick to spend boatloads of cash on free agents but now they are being picky when it comes to their own stars. Guys that mean a lot to the Yankee atmosphere and statistics.

Yes, Posada and Rivera are heading toward the ends of their careers. I understand this but players don't. They see themselves as guys that can perform right now and they expect the Yankees to show some faith and trust in two of their own.

It doesn't bold well that Bernie faced a fate that Rivera and Posada are not interested in being a part of next season.

The Yankees should offer Rivera two strong years at $10-12 million per. I think that's all Rivera is looking for anyway.

Posada should get a nice 3/4 year deal with a player option around the $50 million range over the contract.

I don't think that's absurd for those two guys and the Yankees can pay that money.

The Yankees without Arod would certainly miss the playoffs next year unless there was some major moves made.

If A-Rod leaves they'll have a ton of money to throw around at other FA's, but I'm sure they'd miss the playoffs anyway.

Heck, they'd be 10-12 games under .500 this year if it wasn't for A-Rod.

What the writer fails to realize is Alex Rodriguez isn't substituting Brosius or Boggs/Hayes. He's substituting Tino Martinez.

The Yankees do not have a big homerun hitter on their team anymore (with the exception of ARod). Despite all of the average power in their lineup during their championship years they had a constant in Tino Martinez and his homerun numbers.

Take out Alex Rodriguez and the next best homerun hitter in NY is Hideki Matsui with 12.

Apparently Boston is pushing to get A-Rod during the offseason with Schilling and Lowell's contracts off the books:

They were discussing that on Baseball Tonight last night and Tim Kurkjian does not believe it will happen.

ARod has a lot of negative history with the Red Sox and with a lot of those players still with the team i'm not sure how well recieved he would be in Boston.
Personally i hope it doesn't happen. When it comes to individual numbers ARod is great but when it comes to winning ARod is not the guy.

                                When it comes to winning?

How exactly do you determine what makes a player a winner or not?

The whole winner theory on players is silly. Player A who played 78 games and sits on the bench won with the Cardinals last year he's a winner? But Player B who drives in runs and helps his team win games every night isn't a winner because his TEAM didn't win a championship?
