That's just bull ****. Really, it is. When you factor in that steroids have allowed him to become the single season home run king and soon he will become the all time home run king, it's ridiculous to say that steroids have hurt him more than helped him.

Plus since you'll say that he would have hit all the home runs anyway, I can just say that he would've gotten hurt anyway.

Griffey's swing is more beautiful, but it doesn't cover as many holes as a swing like Bonds'. The main difference is the extension in Griffey's swing. He may tuck his front shoulder in and fly out, but extension is less power. Staying compact will allow you to later extend and drive when you make contact, and the inside pitch is easier to hit that way.

On that note, I teach what I consider Bonds' swing through my own creative drills, etc. to softball players, and our softball team took third place in the state of California (for 12 year olds) and were statistically the best hitting team in Northern California. Needless to say, it worked.

What ever! lol Just stop talking about it and move on, I have. lol Also, yeah Steroids have ruined Bonds career, it made him a one dimensional player. Back when he was stealing 40 bases and batting 300 and hit 40 HRs, he was a better player.

Maybe, but you also have to factor in that he is an old man and he would probably have some injury problems regardless of steroids use. But I don't think the younger Bonds was more valuable than the Bonds that hit 73 home runs or the one who had an OBP of .609.

Maybe, or not, he was built like his daddy. Bobby was rip and solid muscle, so he does have those genes. So he might have been able to play longer. Who knows. His biggest downfall was he thought he was the best player in baseball, and was jealous of the attention that Mark and Sammy were getting. I would take a Bonds that steals 40 bases and play better D then a 73 HR Bonds!

                Re: Jose Canseco know things...

I dont think Bonds could have continued to steal 40 bases even if his body wasnt demolished by roids, with age he would have naturally slowed down anyways. The problem is Bonds has this huge ego, has to be the best to ever play the game, not just one of the greats but the best, period. His ego is exactly what turns so many people off to him.

EDIT- I guess my biggest problem with him and roids is the recovery time. Its true that steroids may not help much in being able to identify what the pitch is and its location but it would have certainly helped him recover quicker from game to game, thus allowing him to play in more games then he may have been able to. In the end maybe he will come clean after he is retired if only to stick it to everyone, but I doubt it and these arguments will keep going on until someone else becomes the story of the day.

Roids help in hitting the ball farther. I have played baseball all my life and have know many people that took roids. Guys who couldn't hit a HR at all, started hitting HR's on roids.

That is true, but it doesn't work for every one. So if you take Roids are going to be a better hitter all the time?. I think it works for some and some it doesn't. It is a gamble.

Agree, but Hanks day it was speed that was the recover thing players took. I think Bonds having that ego is what drove him to be so great. you have to driven to make it in anything. My friend is Billie Joe Armstrong from Greenday and he was driven his whole life. You have to be!

There's a difference between driven and an ego.

It depends on whether they have an arms swing or a legs swing. Those who have an arms swing use their arms as their bat speed, thus more strength will indeed mean more bat speed. But Bonds uses his legs, thus that's where his bat speed comes from. Steroids normally wouldn't help those guys, and in fact may actually slow down their torque because of their overall muscle mass.

Some times, sometimes it can hurt their swing. Some times you get too strong, you lose your flexibility.
