Actually its nothing personal about you at all... We as fans pick and choose who we love and hate purely based on self serving reasons. Thats how Cowboys fans could hate TO for standing on the star and wish him bodily harm and then turn around and wear his jersey and adore him a year later cause he is catching TDs.

The nature of fans are fickle I fall victim to it myself... we get caught up in a image of a person with out intimate knowledge of how they really are. Ankeil could be a great guy I wouldnt know, but he also could be a watcher of child porn and likes to kick elderly people in the knees for fun... you just dont know.

And I love it. It's a good lesson that how you treat people and the person you are off the field actually does matter in the long run.

The double standards continue. It has more to do with Bonds becoming Baseball's All Time HR King.

Ankiel is insignificant in the long term.

well look at the whole situation in context... the reason people hate Bonds is basically for the persona he presents (the "I'm bigger than the game, I didn't do anything wrong).. I think it would be a different situation if he came out & said that he did do something & apologized (see Giambi - he acted very apologetically about the mess & basically nothing more came of it from the fans).

Once the story broke, Ankiel didn't "run & hide" like Barry.. he offered to meet with people & spoke about the situation... the fact that Barry feels he is "god" puts people off

Plus it also has something to do with the fact that the only way Bonds obtained his record is through cheating. Bob Costas was on the Jim Rome show and he offered an amazing point... In 1999, Barry Bonds wasn't listed on the All Century Team. He was a good player, with all the tools, but he was nothing outstanding. Flash forward 8 years and people are talking about how Bonds was/is one of the all time greats. Before he started using, he wasn't even in that conversation. Great player, Hall of Famer, sure, but he was no where near all-time best status. Without drugs, Bonds never sniffs the all time home run record... add that to his horrible personality, and right there you have a lot of reasons as to why people may hate him.

Bonds was a great, but nowhere near all time great, and that's not disputable, it's statistical fact.

Of course not, but I'm not out to tell others what they should think or feel. If they dislike him because he did something to them, fine. If they dislike him because they read that he did something to someone else, fine. If they dislike him for seeing the way he acts or has acted towards the media, fine. Same goes for those that like Barry, but have never met him or have any idea what he's about. It's just human nature and the way we're all wired.

I agree... I honestly dont dislike or like Barry. I am not that into Baseball so thats most likely why... but I am like that for other sports as well... I just dont get that emotionally invested personally with sports figures (teams are whole other story). I kinda take it for entertainment and leave it at that. I look at Barry like I look at Tom Cruise but I do wonder what the hell going on in between thier ears sometimes.

Wasn't the ONLY active player on the All Century Team a certain Ken Griffey Jr. at the peak of his awesomeness and before anyone saw him being taken down by injuries? Barry in 1999 had already won three MVP Awards ('90, '92, '93) and had racked up about 450 SB and another 450 HRs. He was what, 35 at the time? Odds are he was going to get another 50 HRs even without the juice and still have gotten the 500 SB as well. Add in that he was a run producer, a top tier OBP guy, and a .300 hitter and he was a Hall of Famer for sure. He just wasn't BARRY BONDS, the answer to what happens when you give a Hall of Fame caliber player enough steroids to fuel the East German Swimming Team.

no, but he certainly wasn't considering one of the best either. Roids helped him earn that honor. Hall of Famer for sure, but not even close when it came to all time greats. I'm not saying that's the reason people hate Bonds, but I can certainly see why they would.

Bonds was a superstar and could do it all, so let's say he didn't take roids. He would still have close to 550 or more HR's and have about 800 SB. Plus he would have more Gold golves. He would still be considers one of the all time greatest. Especially if he had over 600 HR's. The only thing is being on roids helped him play longer, so that is a factor. From what I heard the Dr. that gave the stuff to Ankiel is pretty shaddy.
