I think he hesitated with the call because he didn't have an angle to see whether or not Barrett held onto the ball.

He should be out. Barrett went back and got the ball and tagged him.

I couldn't see for sure if he got the edge of the plate after he hit the cleat, they needed an overhead view. I think he might have gotten the corner of it. Either way he's called safe, and its over. Great job by the Rockies!

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Barret's pad covers up whether or not his hand hit the corner after colliding with his cleat.

              Exactly.

The ump doesn't always have the best angle so you just have to go with your best judgment.

In the heat of the moment, we all thought he touched the plate. Just because he's an ump doesn't mean he's not human.

Oh well. Congrats to the Rockies.

Barrett did tag him. You can see Tim make the call, after which Barrett hesitated, then made the tag anyways just in case.

Yeah, but you can't just assume that a team is gonna win. If he woulda been called out, that might have shifted momentum a little, and there woulda been 2 outs in the inning.

Completely disagree, man. That screw up was the game. The Rockies probably would have gone on to win but who really knows.

Great game though and I'm glad to see the Rockies move on.

McClellan was behind Barrett, so he had a full view of the plate, and he could have seen if any fingers snuck through and touched the plate.

There really is no clear cut view of him missing home plate. I think he got the edge of it but you cant really tell. McClellan had the best angle so all we can do is speculate. Great baseball game though.

I guess the difference is that none of us were standing two feet away from the play like McClelland was, nor are any of us being paid to make correct calls to decide MLB games.
