It wasn't an honest mistake. I played baseball all of my life up until college. I could tell if a bat I was using was an inch longer or a couple of ounces heavier or lighter. If a nobody like me can notice that, I'm sure that Sosa could notice that too.

It shouldn't be surprising that none of his homerun bats had cork in them. Do you really think Sosa is going to send in a bat with cork in it? Of course not. He's going to send in another clean bat.

The moral of the story is probably everyone in the MLB is on 'roids so give Barry a break. So if you try to erase his records, you may as well pretend like the last 20 years of baseball didn't happen. I'm sure he is one self righteous pompous dude right about now.

It's not like we didn't already know that steroid use was widespread in baseball. I don't understand the feeling among Barry fans that this somehow makes him look better.

I really don't understand why people don't realize that HGH wasn't banned by baseball until 2005. When Pettitte allegedly took it, it was in 2001-2002.

Was it any less illegal to criminally obtain and use it then compared to now?

Let's be serious now... if you've ever held a corked bat you'd know it's not really that much lighter...

That's not what makes the ball jump off the bat, so the weight isn't even really the point.

FWIW, it seems corking a bat doesn't help. Bat speed can increase slightly but the mass is reduced which counteracts that advantage. One of a few websites on why it doesn't do much: http://www.kettering.edu/~drussell/b...corkedbat.html

That's what one of the guys on ESPN was saying. I've also heard this a lot in my Sport Law class. It's extremely hard to prove defamation of character so if you can't prove it beyond a reasonable doubt, you lose. If you lose then you look guilty, even though you still might not be.

1. Give Maris his record back. Give Aaron his record back (until ARod breaks it - a REAL home run hitter).
2. Anyone linked to steroids or HGH should have ALL of their records removed. This includes ALL of Clemens and Pettite's wins. And yes, I am a Yankee fan, have been my whole life. You can't take a World Series title away from a team, but you certainly can remove individual achievements from players. I don't care if Clemens got most of his wins before his doping, the mere fact that he took it at all should render his achievements null and void.
3. Anyone linked to steroids should not be allowed in the HoF. Putting a cheater in the HoF belittles every other great achievement in there.
4. Every current player should be suspended for a year.
5. All teams that have current contracts with players on this list should be given the right to terminate said contracts and retain any financial compensation from this point on. In other words, Pettitte's contract with the Yanks should be allowed to be canceled, as should Giambi's.
6. Hire someone else to STRONGLY look into the Red Sox organization. No way in hell was Mitchell gonna accuse any current players on that team of doping.
7. Pay further homage to the players of today who are not linked to steroids who are breaking records, like ARod.

Just saw on ESPN's bottom line that Conseco was barred by MLB from entering the press conference. They said it was for media members only. Ya right.

I remember thinking that when Clemens hurled that shattered bat at Piazza in 2000 that it looked like an incidence of roid rage.

I have held a corked bat and it was noticable that it was lighter. Of course I'm a nobody. Anyway, my point was that I think Sosa knew he was using a corked bat. I find it laughable that you goto the plate and don't know what type of bat you are using.

I think Sosa was dirty and I think he was a cheat. Does anyone disagree with that?

He got caught using a corked bat. He then said he would take a drug test anywhere anytime only to get called on it and run away.

Look how drastically his body has changed since he came into the league. To me it appears obvious.

McGwire was one of my favorite players but I admit that he was on gear even though I don't have any "positive tests".
