    MVP Baseball hitting question

This is my understanding of the hitting in MVP baseball: All you have to do is time the pitch and use the stick or D PAd to determine the type of hit. In other words it is not necessary to aim the bat to make contact with the ball? It is all just timing based. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Is that true? That can't be. So it doesn't matter if Zito throws a nasty curve down and in to a righty or a fastball high and away, all you need to do is time the pitch? That doesn't seem logical. I would like to believe that if the pitch is outside to a righthanded batter then you have to time the pitch and aim the joystick in the direction of the pitch. I mean if all you had to do is time the pitch no matter where it is high, low, left, or right a 4 yr old could hit in this game. I won't believe it until I see it.

What about that danged pitching cursor? The movies look like its there. Does anyone know if you can turn it off or are we forced to know where the pitcher is aiming?

I could be wrong, but Im pretty sure you aim the analog to a locale.

From what I see on the videos, I think that the pitches come in pretty fast and that you won't exactly have alot of time to decide to swing or not. Not only do you have to decide whether the ball is in the strike zone or not, you also have to decide whether to swing at an inside curve that may jam you, as well as decide to pull or go the other way, as well as adjust between pitch speeds so you can get good contact. I think it will be more complicated then a 3-year old swinging at every pitch.

I think MVP looks like the best game on the market right now from what I see. Have have one question though. Why is the pitcher/batter interface slightly off-center? That really doesn't give you the exact feel that you would have when you are up to bat. If I was facing a big league pitcher I wouldn't be off-center. I think that gives a false reading on offspeed pitched.

The timing is not the only thing you have to do to hit the ball. From my understanding, you may make contact if you just time it, but usually won't hit the ball solid. You have to aim the analog stick to hit it solid, i.e. The down way curve from Zito, you better aim outside, and if you try to hit it in the air, you probably wont hit it with any kind of pop. It sounds pretty sweet actually, because ifyou guess wrong and swing outside, you may break your bat or hit a nubber on an inside pitch.
