And take a glimpse at Ellsbury's minor league statistics. They aren't that good. He's not a top 25 prospect in the minors IMO and is a product of Peter Gammons and Jim Callis hype.
Don't be surprised if Johan Santana is a Yankee before the season gets underway.

Umm you do realize that most prospects aside from Josh Beckett or Mark Prior are not hyped right when they come out of HS/college.. right?
Hughes wasn't rated really high when he first got out of HS.. its not that big of a deal. I can tell you that the Yankees were really really really high on Joba which is why they took him in the supp round even though there were huge concerns about his injuries and his weight.
I thought that's what this was about. If it's not then I hold back my statement."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I know this is just a rumor, but this would be a huge blockbuster.

I don't know about those Johnny Damon ones. I find that ridiculous. Damon was an amazing minor league player and was a prized prospect at 18."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. My point still stands. It's all relative. Joba was hyped as much as you possibly could for a guy out of HS. He wasn't getting mainstream publicity because not many do(if it all do), but everybody in minor league circles knew about him and knew he was a stud.Comment

Re: Don't be surprised if Johan Santana is a Yankee before the season gets underway.
He's better than Melky but he's not a top 25 prospect. Hell I don't even think he's a top 40 prospect. It's just a load of hype. He's not the player Damon is and he won't be. He's not even that great of a CFer yet. I'm hoping they trade away Crisp as a Yankee fan because Crisp is top 2-3 at CF defensively and Ellsbury is a CLEAR step down from him.Comment

Ellsbury's minor league statistics are pretty respectable for a plus defender and leadoff hitter.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Yes he's gonna be a solid player but he's not an untouchable. I think I saw a Jim Callis list where he had Ellsbury as the #17 prospect in baseball which is a freaking joke. 2 hot months don't change the player Ellsbury is.Comment

Oh, yeah I doubt it would ever happen. Still fun to think about though. The trade is actually pretty even for all 3 teams, but it has like a 0.0001% chance of happening.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

The Twins would ultimately be trading Santana for Haren.

Hi, the Twins could either have something or nothing after 2008. Well, unless they decide to pony up for once and re-sign Santana.Comment

Re: Don't be surprised if Johan Santana is a Yankee before the season gets underway.
Nobody considered Ellsbury a top prospect until now?
How about EVERY minor league report had Ellsbury in the top 50 prospect report for 2007 and NONE had Chamberlain in there?
Even the YANKEES had Chamberlain only at 5 on their own charts this year with Hughes, Sanchez, Tabata and Betances ahead of him.
I will give you this....most scouts think Chamberlain(even before his impressive MLB debut) has a huge upside IF he maintains a "less than rotund"(FAT) body shape and doesn't try to make up for being in poor shape(which he has been on and off since HS...NOT a good sign) with overthrowing which leads to his injuries.
Geez Yankee fans(some)...pass the pipe the rest of the league is fiending for some of that!
