And look at Joba now, he certainly isn't fat anymore. Ellsbury doesn't have as high a upside as Joba, not even close.

I am starting believe that Johan is going nowhere. I think he will be with Minnesota in 08.

Braves should get in on this. They have a lot to offer. Yunel Escobar is a great hitter and can play 2B/SS/3B, then work from there. Throw in some SP prospects and make it happen.

Not happening but if the Braves wanted to, I think we could have thrown out a pretty good offer to Min.

I honestly believe Minni is trying to get Boston to up their offer with all the other teams. I think they really like the Sox package as a whole, but want the Sox to panic and replace Coco with Ellsbury.

It won't happen, but they can try.

Re: Don't be surprised if Johan Santana is a Yankee before the season gets underway.

                The Braves can't afford him.

The Mets aren't getting him unless they find a third team who likes their prospects and matches up well with what Minnesota wants.

Boston isn't getting him unless the Twins decide they have to move him, because right now Boston's offer is still the best.

The Yankees won't get him unless they stop overvaluing their prospects.

The Mariners, Angels, and Dodgers remain wildcards.

All in all, I'd have to say he isn't getting traded at the winter meetings and it is likely Santana will end the calendar year with the Twins. The Twins don't have to deal him right now, they can just sit back and wait for the offers to improve unless Santana breaks character and delivers an ultimatum. It wouldn't surprise me if he tells the club that he will not waive his no trade clause during the season. This whole thing just harkens back to the winter of 2003-2004 when Texas dealt Arod. It looked like he'd be going to Boston only for it to fall through. Texas then had that phony press conference with Arod where they introduced him as the captain, Arod said he wanted to retire a Ranger, and then a month later he was in New York. I'm not saying that is where he'll end up but eventually he'll be moved and it will probably happen very quickly with a team calling up the Twins and giving them exactly what they want.

                    What?

They offered a single prospect, Hughes, plus garbage.

How is Melky not a good hitter? He did end up in the .270s but that's after he slowed down a bit. He is still young, and should be a good hitter in the majors. Hell .270s isn't terrible.

                          .275/.340/.388 - OPS+ 90

And not appreciably better in the minors.

Gammons said that the Twins like the Sox package but they don't love it. If they put Ellsbury in instead of Coco then it would be a done deal but the same can be said about the Yankees if they put Kennedy in the deal it would be done. The Twins have to bring back a package that the fans would accept as a fair deal.

Honestly I have a strange feeling it is going to end just like when the Red Sox acquired Arod but couldn't get the contract right and the Yankees swooped in the last minute and snag him.

Forgive me for not being impressed with a below average centerfielder with minimal upside and a low quality prospect unlikely to amount to anything in return for arguably the premier starter in the league.

The Sox offer is better, because according to the information that came out today the Yankees no longer have an offer. Twins were willing to do Hughes, Melky, Marquez, and Hilligross. Yankees walked away.
