Ignoring defense would be the best thing when making any argument for Ryan Howard....lets just say he has DH written all over him. It's part of the reason I don't think the Phillies need to do anything crazy over the next couple of years with signing him to a really long term deal. They own his rights till he's 32, and I would sign him to keep him to 34 or 35 personally, but absolutely no further than that.

Their OPS was comparable, but it's the RBI argument that I hate. 12 more RBI's? Not only are they the most irrelevant stat in baseball and dependent on teammates, but a 12 RBI difference is nothing. I do agree that the homers (an important stat) played a huge part in the voting, as well they should have.

Thats fair, but there are only 4 active players that ever drove in more, and it is the 49th best rbi season in history (most were pre 1940 that were better).

He forced words into my mouth by saying I was making an argument based on "Gold Glove logic" when I never mentioned them at all.

You don't think Howard is a better fielder than Pujols, do you? If not, why are you arguing just for the sake of arguing?

Bottom line is that these awards do in fact take into account more than all these gotdamn stats you guys throw out. Maybe dk, the baseball god, refuses to think that. But it seems like others do.

Or are the voters Phillies homers as well?

SO HOW COME HOWARD DESERVED IT OVER PUJOLS IN 2006 WHEN PUJOLS MADE THE PLAYOFFS, HOWARD DID NOT, AND PUJOLS HAS THE BEST GLOVE AT HIS POSITION?

Please don't ever use Gold Glove logic for anything ever again. They're a broken award. There's no run-off for voting and we know how that turns out. A guy could theoretically win with two votes.

And no. You nitpicked something I said even when you obviously agree with the point. I argue about things like Brett Myers being an elite pitcher. There just happen to be more threads about the Phillies than any other team, so make some ridiculous claims about other teams and it won't seem like I'm arguing against the Phillies so much.
