Re: Best 1-2 Punch in the MLB for 2008?
A few things...
1. My vote goes for Sabathia and Carmona, with Peavy and Young a close second.
2. Who the hell is skitch?
3. DK, I like you, but you're quickly becoming the most annoying poster at OS, man. Chill out. You're making the Pro Baseball forum damn near unreadable.
Do you not think people would disagree with me if I started a thread in the NBA forum talking about how the Bobcats were a serious playogg team in the east? And then I used the reasoning that I gotta defend my boys? And then if I started several threads about the Bobcats wouldn't the regular NBA forum posters be replying in each one?Comment

I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm not making any threads. I am responding to a topic that was obviously created from a homer unrealistically promoting his teams two players. Posting the list is fine. It seems like a good list. There are some great combinations at the top of it.

Just let it go. It goes for JBH, too.Comment

This stuff is insane and I'm sure others are sick of all of us bickering about the same crap over and over again.Comment

Re: Best 1-2 Punch in the MLB for 2008?
I will add if the rumors are correct and Seattle picks up Erik Bedard that the M's instantly have a duo that is probably Top 5 in Bedard and Felix.
I've been an M's fan since I could throw a baseball, but if Bavasi trades away Adam Jones, George Sherrill, Jeff Clement and Carlos Truinfel for 2 years of Bedard I'm burning my M's gear.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Best 1-2 Punch in the MLB for 2008?
And then this quote
pretty much confirms what I said.
It's amazing that there is this bickering when we actually agree in the thread. I know you don't think Hamels/Myers is the best 1-2 punch p2k. The phillies fans were the ones that started stuff in this thread by calling me out for saying myers wasnt an elite pitcher just because of some predisposed bias. Me and JBH were debating the posted topic, all fine and good. The irrelevent bickering started when skerik came in raving about phillies murdering my family.
ANYWAY
To the topic
My top five 1-2s would be
1. Sabathia/Carmona: #1 and #2 last season in pitcher VORP for the AL. This isn't that close unless one of these guys gets injured.
2. Webb/Haren: Webb has pitched five seasons, each time going over 180 innings and increasing his work each season (over 236 IP last year). Meanwhile, his ERA has been dropping over the past four seasons. Great combination right there. Haren's already good numbers will improve in the NL.
3. Peavy/Young: Peavy is the best right hander in the game. Young hasn't gone past 180 innings in a season yet but has seen significant drops in ERA each season since coming into the league.
4. Smoltz/Hudson: It has been twelve years since Smoltz last posted an ERA over 3.50 in a season. Simply amazing. Look for another season with an ERA around 3.30 and WHIP about 1.20. Hudson had an anomaly year in 2006 but found his stuff last season and was a top five NL pitcher.
5. Penny/Billingsley: Penny is coming off a dominant season with an ERA+ of 151. Billingsley look strong in his part-season last year and should be able to continue his performance level over 200 innings.Comment

Re: Best 1-2 Punch in the MLB for 2008?
You mean aside from when I opened the thread that he started there was one vote in the poll (for the Phillies) and a big picture of Phillies pitchers? How many top ten lists include pictures of the #8 ranking and nothing of #1? The post was obviously intended to promote his team.
And that was all he did. You fell for it hook, line and sinker.
But oh well, enough of that and back to the subbyComment
