WTF are you talking about? He had TJ surgery, his arm didn't fall off. Reports have him as right on schedule in his rehab.

Don't worry. Oakland always seems to pump out aces from the farm every 3-4 years.

I'm hoping Bedard and Loewen can get close to cracking that list this year...as for the preseason:

          Best now: Webb/Haren
          Next 8-10 years: Cain/Lincecum

I think Zambrano, Hill deserves a mention. So Zambrano, Hill.

I guess 2 Phillies fans think 2005 Brett Myers is going to magically reappear due to pixie dust and love... and be significantly better too.

I wouldn't say that. You aren't allowed to post anything negative about the phillies here.

I'm as big a Cub fan as there is, but no way do those two need to be in this conversation.

My vote goes to Sabathia and Carmona.

No, you trolled. That's why you had Phillies fans on your ***.

Since I'm a homer, I'm going to go with Webb/Haren.

How was I trolling? I backed up everything I said about Myers with statistics and evidence. I haven't started a single thread just to bash the phillies. JBH started the thread and made his points, then I made mine, and we posted back and forth a bit. There weren't any direct insults or personal issues. It was all on topic. Heck our back and forth was over before skerik popped up. Then the rest of the peanut gallery stepped in.

Re: Best 1-2 Punch in the MLB for 2008?

Since Beckett and Matsuzaka was not an option i chose Webb and Haren.

If not for Jake Peavy Brandon Webb might be the best starting pitcher in the NL. He's won 48 games over the last 3 seasons while watching his ERA drop while his strikeouts and innings pitched climb. Dan Haren's numbers compliment Webb very well. Haren won 43 games for the A's over the same stretch and while his ERA has fluctuated (though it went down by more than a full run in 2007) he has seen his strikeouts rise and his innings stay consistant (at least 217 IP over the past 3 years).

Of the rest of the pitchers on the list Peavy and Young certainly belong and you can make a case for Smoltz/Hudson and maybe Lackey/Escobar but the rest:

We don't know if Santana will be with the Twins when the season starts (though i'm thinking he will be) and it's too soon to say what they will get out of Liriano.

Billingsly may not be in the Dodgers rotation, at least at the start of the season (depends on Jason Schmidt)

The jury may still be out on Carmona. Great 2007, horrible 2006. We don't know which is the real deal yet.

Hamels and Myers are interesting. Hamels was off to a great start before missing some time with an injury. Myers better hope Lidge doesn't struggle as the closer for his chance to saty in the rotation.

The Rays and Giants pitchers probably shouldn't be on a list like this yet, but i guess as withh all the pitching duos mentioned only time will tell.
