Re: Top 10 shortstops in MLB?
LOL whatever.
Just look at the stats. He blows a bunch of the guys you listed ahead of him away.
And it's certainly possible he has a down year but there's just no real logic that says its going to happen.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

He's been playing so hard for so long, he is starting to fall out of his prime, just think the age will start to get to him.Comment

That's a better post but he's 33. I'd say he still has a few years before we should see any significant decline in performance.MLB: New York Yankees

Re: Top 10 shortstops in MLB?
Seeing as how his numbers last year were pretty much exactly the same as his career averages, the evidence suggests otherwise.Comment

Re: Top 10 shortstops in MLB?
Honestly admit this atleast, that if he didn't play in New York he wouldn't be listed ahead of a lot of these players. Jeter will not be a top 5 ss this year. Quote me on it!!!!Comment

.388 on-base percentage
.452 slugging
That's good no matter where you play. Below is the list of shortstops not named Hanley Ramirez who match Jeter's offensive production.

Re: Top 10 shortstops in MLB?
I'm sorry if I'm not like you and I'm not buying into the Tulowitzki hype, since I see him as a Coors Field Product who IMO is no better than 8th in the league overall out of other SS, his FPCT was only .003 % off and they both committed the same number of errors. They're both great defensively, but just because there's a big difference in one stat makes one player inferior to the other. Oh my!
Read this post I made earlier:
However, I do have a bone to pick with Tulowitski... he should be lower. If he's above 8 for anyone else, please look beyond his defense and realize that he's a Coors Field wonder. He may be better than Khalil defensively, but he's got nothing on Khalil offensively, if Khalil played half his games... or any other shortstop on the top 10 list... at Coors Field, they'd easily surpass that of Tulowitski. I'll give Tulowitski the benefit of a doubt and see how he does his sophomore year.
So tell me... where am I discounting Tulowitzki's defense? Please I'd like to know.Last edited by BatsareBugs; 02-11-2008, 10:00 PM.Comment

So Khalil Greene sucks at defense? WOW, let's just point out ONE FREAKIN' STAT and call it a day. What's next, you're going to bring up VORP?

The difference isn't much defensively between the two players, but of course you have to be ridiculous and point out a stat that favors YOUR argument greatly but ignores the other facits of the topic, such as FPCT, errors, TC, etc.

Seriously though. Where did I discount Tulowitzki's defense. Can you point that out to me, because I obviously said he's better than Khalil defensively, but both are great defensively.Comment

Okay, I'll go tell Khalil he needs to get more chances to field. Maybe I should also tell him about his poor Fielding Run Differential and his OBP.

Re: Top 10 shortstops in MLB?
That's cool. I'm aware that Tulowitzki has had a lot more chances. There's nothing I have against Tulowitzki's defense. It's his offense that bothers me. He's one of the better shortstops in the league, but if he cuts down on the difference in his home/road splits, then I'll consider him one of the top shortstops, until then, he's in the upper half, but no better than sixth or seventh at the moment.Comment

Re: Top 10 shortstops in MLB?
Actually it's huge, and you've just as much argued yourself that they are the same offensively once taking park factors into account. Yet you still contend that they are the same level overall.Comment
