However this is the same in house that did Live, FIFA, NHL 2003 and others.

MVP isn't going to be great it's first year. It's diffinately not going to be great it it's TP wrapped in a shinny new name. I don't think that's the case. I'm sure they've been working on this thing for the last two years.

I'm also a little skeptical but EA Sports seems to be making a little effort to return their sports game to realism with a blend of fun. I just don't know how well MVP will pull that off.

If you thought High Heat didn't "feel like real baseball", then MVP will probably disappoint you. While I think it will be a lot of fun to play, it is highly unlikely that it will come close to HH's realism.

I am in the midst of a seven day rental period for HH2004 PC myself, and although I love the sereies, I can see why someone says it doesn't feel liek real basebal...

that's because the SOUNDS OF THE GAME ARE SO IMPORTANT to baseball, ansd while HH delivers unmatched gameplay, the sounds are second-tier, almost crap, actually.

I dont think MVP will be anything this year. For 1, I dont trust EA no more. I think they try to have a good mix of sim and arcade in their games and it turns out to be more arcade than anything. The batter/ pitcher interface looks like it would be to easy to hit. Just as in all the TPs. Just swing away.
I like their interactive franchise mode tho, but that will most likely be the best thing about the game besides the graphics.

Also, I realized how dumb the throwing meter sounds. Took me a while to realize it but it seems like plain ol new BS features. Just like the freestyle control. Think about it, the AI should know when you wanna gun the ball and when you wanna toss the ball. I bet you 9-10 times you throw you're gonna fill the meter all the way up which IMO is a waste of botton presses. Its just a useless feature. EA has never got the clue that a agressive throw and a conservative throw is highly unessecary. Every other baseball title's AI knows that if they have a runner on third and the batter hit a sac fly, you wanna gun the ball, not toss it. They are tryna make it where the user has more control over the players, and I personally think its a waste.

That doesn't make much sense if you ask me. You want less control over the players?? I certainly respect that opinion, but my choice would be to have the most control over the player in the user's control. The AI should be applied to players that the user is not currently controlling - once I take control of a player, I want to be able to affect as much as I can whatever that player does. Anyway, although I am hoping that it is, I don't think MVP will be the top baseball game this year simply because EA's starting from the ground up - I do, however, think they're on the right track, and the new innovations (throwing/pitching meters) are great ideas. The real test will be if they can incorporate the great graphics, innovations, and controls into a game that also has realistic play (i.e. realistic player ratings and abilities for one). I'll wait for some reviews, but I'm hoping EA did a good job on that.

I think WSB will be the best overall game this year, and I realize that a lot of people here are not fond of EA for their own reasons (some fair, some not), but you have to say this for EA and MVP:

They're trying to innovate. MVP's pitcher interface is wholly unique. It may work, and it may not, but as gamers, I feel that we should be applauding genuine attempts at innovation as it strengthens the entire genre. Somebody has to be the first to do anything - and when they do, they do gamers a service - even when the attempt fails. Otherwise, we'll just see a re-hash of the same titles year in and year out - and who really wants that?

Re: Just read the MVP interview and...

I'm not saying I want less control over my players but in baseball the only two things a player does is catch and throw. they might as well make a botton to catch also. The throwing meter sounds like it will take away from the realism. For instance, you make an error of an groundball underthrowing it b/c you did'nt fill the meter up or you let an easy run score of a sac fly b/c you did'nt fill the meter up. Resulting in more user controled errors than ratings controlled errors.
Or another case would be, that the meter cancels out a fielders throwing rating and everyone who fills the meter up will have a gun arm. They say that filling it up will increase the chance of an error, but I'm pretty sure its gonna be a random thing with errors. If you fill it up everytime you throw they are not gonna allow you to have 5-10 errors are they. So it will be completely random.
Its almost like the past TPs with the aggressive and conservative throw. Why would you wanna throw conservative? I'd rather have ratings determine if I can gun a player out at home than a meter which might either give you an advantage or a disadvantage. To me its sounds like another useless EA sports feature that they are notorious for.
Now the pitching meter on the other hand sounds nice. Even tho TP has always had some type of pitching meter already. I know this one is different but its all the same if you ask me.
