    Re: HUGE FLAW!!!!

DS - Thanks for posting this. Maybe people will not think I am lying or a fan boy now since you ahve close to 1000 posts.

I wasn't out to ruin anyones game which was evident by the header and the first message.

Just an FYI, I have tested this a bit more before I abandoned it. I found this really only works if you start the game with this method and continue on.

As with your tests, I usually get rocked a bit in the first, but on the whole the CPU doesn't do a lot of damage.

HOWEVER and the reason I thought this was a game killer, is I tried this method in the latter Innings of a game to see if someone who "couldn't resist" could get out of a jam. Well it didn't work with my pitcher tiring in the middle to late innings.

Again if you don't play this way (and as many have pointed out who would) you'll never notice this problem.

Maybe if I titled the post ODD QUIRK or something people wouldn't have gotten so upset.

All that matters to me is that it isn't one of those things that can be used against another human (i.e. NFL2k's out routes on Dreamcast). I'll be the first to admit that I'm not as hardcore of a baseball gamer as some people are, but this is the dumbest 'flaw' I've seen in a long time. Simply for the fact of what you have to do to achieve it. I'm not calling the person who discovered it dumb, just the nature of the flaw itself.

Guys....I think your missing the point here. This test should not be looked at as an effective way to use this method to actually play or cheat the game. The use of this test could be done to uncover a possible oversite in the whole logic of the pitching engine. However, whatever the case may be, EA should be made aware of this....so they can improve the game in the future or for the PC version to make it more realistic for all of us. The guy was just pointing out a possible flaw which seems very real and even went as far as to hide it several lines down to avoid spoiling it for some of you......He certainly spoiled it for me! just kidding

Following the various threads on MVP is eerily similar to last year with WSB. From the "reallly fun game but a few A.I. issues" right down to this "down the middle test". I still cannot wait to try MVP as a rental, and if its pretty good I will add it along with the recently purchased WSB. I guess my point is it is painfully obvious they are following the exact same path: fantastic game engine, but ran out of time to really nail everything down. Everything will come down to each individuals definition of "game-killer" flaws. Keep posting....its good info, and it certainly helped out WSB in its sophomore effort.

it also supports a possible theory that this game has no learning or tendency tracking built into the AI to adapt to someone who repeatedly starts to throw. In this little test, I was basically hoping that the CPU would start to hit me MORE often and deeper with better precision as I started to repeat this pattern. In essence I was basically PITCHING a batting practice to the team but yet the team was hitting as if I was mixing it up. SO this COULD prove to be a huge problem in the game....it could basically undermine the strategy of mixing up your pitches and THROWING HARD with different location....

Dick, you are probably right that this means the batters don't "learn" your pitching in this game. That is not really a requirement in baseball games...though it is nice. Basically all this shows is that you can go through a game without trying to pitch well, and the cpu will score anywhere from a handful to a bunch of runs off of you.

You CAN do better by pitching to the cold zones, changing speeds, etc, as this is how you generate strikeouts.

You may not like that the game doesn't learn from your pitches, but I can't really consider that a flaw. I don't even know if some of the other games 'learn' your pitching patterns. Does ASB? WSB does, I believe...

By the way, my apologies to the original poster. I thought I was looking at the WSB threads and posted the test I did on WSB last year and I remember I could groove every pitch to the CPU and it still couldn't hit. Again, my mistake as I don't even have MVP
