Re: I think I got it. New and improved sliders!!!

Guys, the bottom line is, no matter what you do you still have to deal with an overweight strikezone and a bad ball to strike ratio.

After testing every possible combo, it's impossible for the user controlled pitcher to get realistic numbers. Thank God the game is amazing, because this is so butchered it's scary.

I have CPU pitching ability at 60 and throw strikes at 13 and the CPU pithers pitch extremely realistic. It's my pitchers that cannot walk anyone, it's annoying but I can overlook it for now.
be who you are and say what you feel, because those who matter don't mind, and those that mind, don't matter.

EaglesFan, this can only be said so many times.

If a major league pitcher wants to throw a strike, 9 times out of 10 he can throw a strike. If he wants to make a quality pitch, that ratio goes down siginifigantly.

If you want your ball/strikes ratio to go down, you need to throw balls. In High Heat it is tough to throw strikes. In this game you need to set up your pitches by throwing balls. I get realistic ratios because I throw balls to set up my strikes, as in I actually aim for the area outside of the strike zone for my pitches.

If you aim for the interior fo the zone all day of course your ratio will be out of whack. You think a decent major league pitcher throws strikes all day? No, he throws balls that have a purpose, setting up the strikes he throws.

I recommend pushing your CPU batting average up. Keep pushing it up until the CPU is pounding you in hits. Then see how many times you throw across the plate in different situations.

Could someone post the absolute best slider combination to date? I want to start a franchise.

Re: I think I got it. New and improved sliders!!!

JUst updated my slider settings again. I've played a few games, and the main thing I was worried about was the USER getting too many strikeouts. Now I understand that lke in real baseball you should try to aim for balls...

But the point that I can throw down the middle and the CPU always missing made me get a little annoyed so I tried to tweak with the CPU Batting Average and the CPU BAtting Eye (Strikes)

So I did some testing with the Devil Rays since they have the worst pitching agains the Yankees. THey hit all over me. It was a little unrealistic so I tweaked it more. Now here again is another update.

CPU PA - 100 with MVP
              CPU Batting Avg. - 50
CPU Batting Eye (Balls) - 90
CPU Batting Eye (Strikes) - 60
              CPU TS - 5
              CPU Steal Bases - 45

When USER pitches it should be set at HVP, but i'd like to know if MVP is better. As you can see with CPU PA at 100 with MVP the CPU pitching is maxed out. Using small batting cursor, I've been getting realistic hitting. That is, when I was the Devil Rays I still get hits, but it's hard to score against Mussina, and when I was the Phills it was easier, etc.

But the whole point of these sliders is to make the USER pitching more challenging. I hate to lower the CPU Batting Eye (strikes) any lower because that may give hitters a tendency to not swing at strikes which will give me more Ks. Raising it made them much harder to get a single out. Also, CPU Batting Avg at 50 felt good, but I haven't tested that setting yet enough to know that if this should change more. I was playing the Phillies against the Marlins and they won 10 -3. My ace gave up 6 runs in 3 innings. I mean, it could happen. I'm going to keep playing on this setting, but if my pitchers can't finsih games and the CPU is getting way too many hits then I'll probably lower it some more.

              Any thought on this?

I too have found that the only way to reduce the number of Ks that you obtain against the CPU is to raise the AI batting avg. slider. I am still working on finding the right balance with regard to the AI balls and strikes sliders. I will give yours a good look tonight and let you know how it goes.

Re: I think I got it. New and improved sliders!!!

I dont know about you guys but I'm having realistic Ks and walks with a combo of everyones slider.

I drew 7 walks one game against Cleveland,(he walked all three batters to get the bases loaded, then WAM, a grandslam.) then the next game drew 4. And with the Ks, with theCPU batting eye(strikes) slider at 85, the highest number of strike outs I got was 5. And I have the CPU batting average at 25. And one game I held them to 5 hits, the next game they had 9 hits.

BTW, the next game against Baltimore, that bastard Scott Ericson threw a no hitter on me. And the had 7 runs, 14 hits. And he gave up 2 walks.

I also throw walks to, because with the slider being at 85, I'm forced to throw balls so I can set up a hitter into swinging at something outside the zone.
Like I said, I dont know about you fellas, but I'm having pretty realistic games now. Walks,Ks, and hits.

It seems like sometimes they will swing at everything, but other times they take strike 1. Well put it like this, I noticed that they may only take strike 1 if its a pitch that hits right on the edge of the strike zone. I mean a ball thats right on the line.

They do swing and hit alot of your pitches but I would say 50% of the batters you face dont let the count get into 3 pitches. The other 50 may take a pitch, swing and miss a pitch or foul off some pitches.

Dont get me wrong, your pitch count will still be accurate though. I check every 2 innings to compare me and the CPUs pitch count and depending if runners were on base and how many balls were thrown, they kept up with eachother realisticly. But like I said, I dont try to throw strikes 100% of the time. I ocasionally throw balls to mix the count and catch him sleeppin on a bad pitch. I usally always throw my good pitch first and last. If its a curve, thorw him a curve in a 2-2 count. My pitch count can still get to 80-100 pitches a game despite the number of times they swing and hit early on me.

Also, At BE(strikes), when at 80, I threw 15 Ks, I raised it to 85, now I cant buy a K. It must be a very thin line between anything over 80 as it drasticaly reduced my Ks when I set it to 85. Even tho it may feel like they swing to much, they make good contact, and dont swing and miss all the time like if the BE slider was below 80. So to answer that question, Swing and miss at 80, swing and hit at 85.

And I play on HVP, and I put the CPU at MVP. It does seem to lower your hits, b/c the CPU will hit thier innitial target more than miss and throw a meatball. And they still throw Balls, and walk me 2-5 times a game. I'm a very patient hitter and I rarely ever swing at the first pitch.
