Re: I think I got it. New and improved sliders!!!

I gave your sliders a shot and had some seriously odd results. I'm at the begining of May right now and I started using them for a 3 game series at Anaheim. Those games were pretty realistic, I went 2-1. Then things got hairy when I headed up north to Seattle. The three game series was as follows:

    Game 1: 20-1
    Game 2: 9-0
    Game 3: 22-15 (I had 35 hits)

I couldn't believe it, it seemed like everything the Mariners threw was right over the plate or a horrible ball that I would never chase. I was pounding practically a home run an inning. Just rediculous. I checked the sliders to make sure they were the same as before and they were. It'll be interesting to see if my next series goes back to normal or continues w/ the Seattle trend. Very odd.

I still can't walk a batter unless I want to, but I am having so much fun playing WSB, I really don't care.
My ERA after 21 games is like 2.62 and the Reds don't have a good staff by any means, so I may raise the AI Batting Avg. slider to 25-30 and see if they hit better in certain situations.
It seemed like to me using Medium Variable Pitching made the AI pitchers better at not piping pitches down the middle a lot. I did plug a Kevin Brown sinker like 415Ft.!
I am still going to play 1 more game using each set of sliders and then decide what I like for each one. All 3 of the above games were fun to play. If I had to go with sliders now, they would be 85PA-25BA-90-Balls-75Strikes-8TS-50SB.
I haven't played a game with these sliders but I will tomorrow and post results

opps...i take that back...you're the reds franchise. Hmm...then it makes me wonder because's LA threw less than 20 balls. I mean LA's pitching is good, but less then 20 balls per game is too litle I think. Was it a problem for you or did you think you swung too many balls?

Also you're right saying that the Reds pitching staff isn't great. But if you wish I suggest that instead of raising the CPU BAtting average to 25. PLay on HVP while leaving the CPU to play on MVP as you had it all along. It might make the CPU hit a little more on you and get you to give up more walks.

                Just an idea.

EaglesFan, this can only be said so many times.

If a major league pitcher wants to throw a strike, 9 times out of 10 he can throw a strike. If he wants to make a quality pitch, that ratio goes down siginifigantly.

If you want your ball/strikes ratio to go down, you need to throw balls. In High Heat it is tough to throw strikes. In this game you need to set up your pitches by throwing balls. I get realistic ratios because I throw balls to set up my strikes, as in I actually aim for the area outside of the strike zone for my pitches.

If you aim for the interior fo the zone all day of course your ratio will be out of whack. You think a decent major league pitcher throws strikes all day? No, he throws balls that have a purpose, setting up the strikes he throws.

I recommend pushing your CPU batting average up. Keep pushing it up until the CPU is pounding you in hits. Then see how many times you throw across the plate in different situations.

                    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

You are a stone cold nut if you think a pitcher can just throw a strike at will. No way can a pitcher throw 9 out of 10 consistently. That's ridiculous.

Fact is, WSB hitters aren't selective wnough and even if you try to hit the corners, the strikezone is so big that it's nearly impossible to throw the right ammount of balls.

Throwing balls to setup your strikes is nice, but the strikezone is still too big to get accurate numbers. The point of throwing a ball to get a strike is to have the ball be close enough to have the batter think about it.

Every ball a pitcher throws doesn't have a purpose, some yes, not every single one...

I already have the CPU batting at 60. I'll try again and see what happens.

Bottom line, this part of the game just isn't as simulation as HH. It's not a bad thing, but it's fact.

I know that this could be getting real annoying, and some may think I have no life...well i don't care what you think here's another update on the sliders...

Everything is the same. Except that i pitch on HVP and CPU pitches on MVP. The sliders that changed were CPU Batting is at 35, and the batting eye (strikes) is at 50 or was it 60. I forget. I tested this out last night and it felt right.

THe problems I was having before this was that I was getting too many Ks still. And hitters would be way off when they swung the ball. I wanted to see more ground outs. Anyway, I feel that this did it. The bE(S) is at 60 let CPU to swing at some pitches and not at others. The CPU pitching to the user remains the same basically because it's maxed out with MVP. It really can't get harder than that, and I'm still able to score runs and hits with realism. I believe that half the sliders settings is complete- that is CPU pitching, but now CPU batting has to be tweaked still.

                        Thanks

                          Thanks
