Re: OK let\'s see your pitching tips here..

Well i figured out the pitchting to a point.

The CPU will swing at pitches close or in the zone if you max out the pitching meter. Last game on all-pro Juan Gonzales, ARod and Palmeiro all swing at pitches out of the zone. If you just get it to the green then there's little break on breaking pitches and no pop in your fastball.

I've seen them starting to swing at pitchnes when the ball market only covers maybe of a sliver of the zone. But you meter as to be maxed out.

It's not perfect and I don't understand how they could get this wrong but it's what we have.

I agree, and I also think JROD that you are right. I don't think I've ever had a strikeout when I didn't let the pitch go all the way into the red zone of the meter. But I get a fair amount when I do that. I think it's kind of cool to have to max or almost max the meter to get a K, risking a mistake pitch that could hurt you.

Re: OK let\'s see your pitching tips here..

I haven't posted anything on this board yet, but after seeing that so many people have problems with the pitching in this game I just felt I had to contribute something here

I play Franchise with the Dodgers on All-Star with pitching cursor: Fade , Batting View: Pitch3/Bat2 and Strike Zone: Off . I have no problems at all striking out the Cpu. I usually make 6-9K's with Perez and Nomo (Traded away Brown) and 3-5K's with my other 3 pitchers. My tactic is to throw a fast first throw in one of the corners, preferably where the batter has a cold zone 0-1 is usually very easy to get this way (actually it's easy getting it with most pitches) for my second throw I try to mix it up...I look for any cold zones near a hot zone and aim the ball to go more on the cold then on the hot zon and I pitch a changeup or a curveball or even a slider if the pitcher is good at it...getting the 0-2 isn't that difficult either but since I tease the batter with a throw near their hot zone the pitch better be good or they'll rip it out of the park (which is nice sometimes as cpu HR's don't come by often )

Now at 0-2 I try to pitch a fastball above the strike zone and perferably just above the batter's hot zone, if it doesn't work I try this again, if the count is 2-2 most of the times I get away with the simplest thing...I just mix it up again by throwing a teasing curveball or changeup near one or more of the batter's hot zone which often results in a strike. At a 3-2 count it's your guess to see what might work.

I don't follow this exact same procedure all the time cause that would make pitching boring, but I'm not afraid to tease or even throw to the batter's hot zone (between a hot and a white zone also works well on curveballs and changeups) and I mix it up well enough to get a nice amount of strikouts each game. Also by throwing most first pitches at one of the strikezone corners I can pick up on who wants to bunt and I just keep throwing towards the same corner until I get the count in my favor (cpu will try to bunt till you've made 2 strikes) the strikeout then is usually easy, I just throw a fastball up and in the middle a bit over the zone (this is a lame way I know but it is a good way of getting more K's if necessary).

The game is great and I'm in no way an invincible pitcher the Rockies just beat me 6-2 so the game stays fun, but since I started to figure the cpu out a little I've been able to make pitching a lot more fun.

                Hope these tips help any.

I get with slow pitches, like a hanging curve ball, or a slow cutter. I find that if I am in the red, the ball can be ripped fairly easily by the CPU. I throw a strike the first time, then maybe a fastball, then a slow curve ball. I get some knee buckling K's this way.

ok I just tried Tonka's advice and with the first batter I faced (it was Julio Lugo, but still...) I got a strikeout without maxing out the meter. I set the batter up with a high fastball just out of the strikezone, and then came back on 2-2 with a curveball, low but in the middle, and solidly in the strikezone, not even hanging off the edge, and Lugo swung and missed. I still got pretty high on the effectiveness meter, but definitely below the red zone by a bit.

                        Thanks, Tonka. Nice first post.

Ok I pitched a great game today!
                            Yankees vs Toronto.
Pettite on the hill for me. Before this game I was lucky to get 3 K's a game. Well for some reason I was in a groove this game.
What I was doing was ALWAYS taking meter to the fullest. I was under the assumption that if you varied the meter length it was for different speeds. Really though the meter determines the effectiveness of the pitch. Before if I wanted to throw a slower FB I would just not take the meter all the way up...not this time.
Anyways no matter the pitch type I took meter all the way. I place pitches anywhere from just outside the zone to about halfway in the zone. I started thinking 1 or 2 pitches ahead to set the batter up etc... Anyways by the 7th inning I had 7K's and a no hitter! By this time Pettite's meter was about halfway red. I still took meter way up but only about halfway into red as any further and the green spot was a sliver.
In the 8th I got K #8! You would have thought I won the lottery I was so pumped.
However all good things come to an end and the next batter got a hit to end the no no. I then ended up walking the next batter as Pettites meter was worthless.
I brought in relievers the rest of the game but did not give up another hit. I won 5-0.
You really need to get in a zone and concentrate so if there any distractions in house don't play.

Now to the weird part. Using the same strategy the next couple games I only got 4 k's in one and 2 in the other. ????
If that wasn't bad enough I lost Jeter with a broken arm/
I guess Pettite was just "on" that day.
In any case, that game was a blast!

Im surprised u were able to last into the 8th maxing out your meter like that on every pitch. It doesnt make sense to max out your meter on "waste" pitches outside the strike zone.
Anyway, great game! When was the last time pitching was as much fun as hitting in a baseball video game?
