The regular season ended so long ago, I kind of forgot who was in the race...I think someday we'll be saying Pujols was one of the best ever.

        I think you're a little late.

            LOL Hardicourt

With the Cardinals finishing fourth, I voted Pujols seventh on my ballot. I don't consider MVP to be "the most outstanding player" award and therefore don't just go by who had the best stats. I like to credit players for lifting their teams to the post-season or at least keeping them in the race until the very end.
I understand that the Cardinals would not have been even close to the wild-card berth without Pujols, but I still like players who elevate their game in crunch time and lift their teams to new heights. And I thought Ryan Ludwick had just as much to do with keeping the Cards in the hunt as Pujols did.

I actually agree with the first part of his statement. I guess then indirectly I agree with Pujols comment from a few years ago. But that being the case, I don't give that honor to Howard either. Sure he tore through September, but he was equally anemic throughout much of the Summer. I mean they were ready to alien probe this guy to find out the problem. It's also tough to give it to Lidge, despite what a feat he accomplished. Reliever of the year, no brainer. If I had to argue for a Philly, I'd almost go for Utley, though he had his struggles as well. Since they wait to announce the MVP until after the season (wish they did this in other sports), I'd be inclined to incorporate the big picture of the season AND the playoff performance.

Howard should have won NL MVP. It should not have been Pujols. Pujols had a better average and better numbers on paper. But Howard down the stretch, hands down lifted the Phillies to their first World Championship. Pujols had nice numbers to put him in the MVP slot, but you have to look at other numbers. Jimmy Rollins won the MVP last yr and he didn't have the best numbers. We can argue that, he didn't have the best numbers, but he lifted the Phils into the playoffs last yr. They got the voting right last yr, down the stretch Rollins was the best player in the National League last yr.Howard down the tough stretch put the Phils on his back and bought them a championship. I believe they screwed up the vote. Howard was theee best player in the National League.

If Howard hadn't crapped the bed for the majority of the season the Phils would have run away with the division. The most valuable players on the Phils are those that carried that oaf on their backs for 5 months until he decided to show up.

                            Ok

                            1. They vote before the post season, so how would the voters know the Phils would win?

                            2. Howard was non-existent in October

                            3. That was not the Phillies first World Championship

Btw what other numbers besides HR and RBI did Howard beat Pujols in? Strike Outs? GIDPs? Errors?

Come on, back up your arguement.

Both great players, but nobody is better or even close to Albert Pujols.

                              I hate this down-the-stretch talk.

                              A season is from April-October. It's not September-October.

A guy that is consistent throughout the entire season is an MVP. Not the guy that decided to show up in the last month of the season.

The reason Rollins was still a good choice was because he was one of the best consistent hitters in the National League in 2007.

He finished 2nd in XBH, 2nd in Hits, 1st in Runs, triples, games, and at-bats, and was also fifth in stolen bases. All that while playing solid D and posting an .875 OPS from the leadoff spot.

Chase Utley would have been a better pick than Ryan Howard in 2008.

Well..... you can. They just don't. No reason why they can't wait until after the playoffs to vote. It's not like it's a government statute or something.
