    Re: Soriano

This conversation would be much more interesting for all of us if Soriano had more than one good season.

I remember hearing the Kevin Maas was one of the best power prospects ever after 1/3 of a good season. And come to think of it, didn't Jeter get touted as the best shortstop in baseball (which he never was) after his first full season? Funny yankee fans...rarely having perspective...

Its not like Jeter's production has dropped off since his rookie year. Hes had some worse years and some better years, but is probably a better player now. So its not like he didn't live up to what people were saying, just other shortstops emerged as great players.

Jeter's a fine player...but he's never been nor will ever be the best shortstop in the game of baseball, which is what a lot of yankee fans were saying when he first came up. I don't think anyone would say that he's a better player than A-Rod now, but they would say things like "he's a better/great leader." Which is fine. He's a nice little ballplayer. But his rookie season was also A-Rod's first full season...and he went .358 with 36 HR and 123 RBI (while batting second)...so Jeter was never top dog.

Jeter is easily the best SS ever. He's the most clutch and one of the best leaders I have ever seen. The play in the playoffs against the A's when he cutoff the bad throw sealed his fate as the best SS ever. Not to mention his rings.
