Re: Tex goes to the Bronx
What does that have to do with this upcoming year? and what happen the last couple of years? i guess they lowered expectations? Expectations are MASSIVE for the 2009 Yankees. New stadium, and three big fishes sportin' the pinstripes, not to mention the increased payroll. They'll fail as the Sox continue to be slept on.XBL: DTX3

Re: Tex goes to the Bronx
Sorry but the Yankees market dwarfs all of those. In the Mets case they are second fiddle in that city, and the Yankees own the region all around New York.
The argument the Yankees do baseball business better doesn't fly.
If they were located in say, Seattle, would they have had the success they've had, would they have the revenue to do what they do now?
They can throw money at players now, and if the player doesn't pan out, no biggie. Other organizations that would cripple them.
If they did baseball better than everyone else, they'd have a lot more titles, especially recently where the gap between their payroll and everyone elses is so large.Comment

Well now that the Yanks scored on 3 of the top free agents, ESPN and others are going to ride all up on their nuts while the Sox will continue to do their thing, their way.XBL: DTX3

They have the 4 largest contracts in baseball. I am sorry but am I the only one that finds that ridiculous?Comment

Angels aren't a huge market. And the Angels do have a ring more recently than the Yankees do.

What about the Mets? They are in the same market. The reason the Yankees own the entire area is because they market so well, thus, they do baseball better than anyone. BTW, LA is the second largest market in the US. What about Chicago, Houston, Dallas-Ft Worth (Arlington), etc. Why aren't those teams successful on the field?NFL: Tennessee Titans

Nope, but it's pretty hilarious that even with their big payroll, they continue to be out played by teams that have no business beating them on paper, not to mention the Angels are the Yankees kryptonite.Last edited by DTX3; 12-23-2008, 06:22 PM.XBL: DTX3

It's not how much you spend, but how you spend it? Talk about deep-sixing your own argument. They've done a terrible job of allocating their resources.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Tex goes to the Bronx
That's not really true. If they did, they'd have more on field success than they do.
They can spend more than everyone else, and they have a higher revenue stream, due to their geographic location, and taking advantage of some baseball TV rules, but I don't think you can say they do the business of baseball better. They are the team from the country's largest market, that's the A-1 reason for their financial success.
The Yankees invest in their on field product - they bring in the stars, and people either tune in or come out to see them, whcih brings in more money. I love those 90's teams as much as anyone with all their championships but I remember going to those games on Tuesday nights and the Stadium would have 20 - 25 thousand people max. Now you'll be hard pressed to find a game where they draw under 45 thousand.Comment
