Re: Bob Costas joins MLB Network
Another reason why I wish I have MLB Network
I loved hearing Costas call games back in the day. He has such a natural almost radio type of voice for baseball. Hopefully some of the MLB Network games get carried up here so I can hear Costas work his magic.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Yes.
Monday or Wednesday nights they have a show called Baseball Seasons. I'm not sure which night it's on. Where they go back to a certain year and relive everything that happened that year.
Tuesday nights they have a show called Ken Burn's Baseball. This guy named Ken Burns goes back and looks at history events of baseball.
Thursday nights they have homerun derby night where they show past homerun derbies.
Friday nights they have World Series highlights. It's a 90 minute show where they go in depth to a past World Series with interviews and stuff from people who were a part of that series.
I've always liked Costas the way I like Joe Buck. Guess I just like their play-by-play voice."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Bob Costas joins MLB Network
Last time I checked every team started the season 0-0. Last time I checked there were 30 MLB teams.
Last time I checked 8 made the playoffs. Last time I checked there are fans scattered all over the nation with fans of all 30 MLB teams that care about their team and want info about their team.
But I don't expect fans from any of those teams to understand where I'm coming from.
I understand there are some other teams out there, but other than maybe a Roy Halladay start, Lincecum vs Peavy, and a handful of other nice pitching matchups or a game showcasing a few sluggers (Hamilton vs Holliday). There isn't much reason for the "general baseball public" to tune into a SD/SF matchup, or a TEX/OAK one etc.
I would watch, but I love the game...Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

I agree about Costas. But not about Joe Buck.
I'd personally think the Cubs/Cardinals is a much better rivarly than the Red Sox/Yankees.
It was tongue-in-cheek.

I would much rather watch a Rangers/A's game over a Red Sox/Yankees game because I never get to see the Rangers and A's play and I see the Red Sox and Yankees play 20 or 30 times a year.Atlanta Braves

Re: Bob Costas joins MLB Network
I'm happy about the Costas addition. I've got a great deal of respect for him, I think he's got a clear love for the history of the game (if you've ever heard his radio show, you'll know what I mean), and has a very good "feel" for the moments in sports.
It's a solid addition, IMO.Comment

I also think, with football, he's just another guy. He's a baseball guy all the way though and really does get into the nuances of the game. His depth of insight on his radio sports show trumps everything he's done with SNF and Inside the NFL.Comment

Weren't most asking for Costas to be the next commish? The guy knows his baseball.
And, btw, I LOVE the MLB network. Just the other night I learned about 'Harvey's Wallbangers' and it was fascinating.... So much history the game has to offer, and so far, MLB Network has been doing a great job showing it!http://flotn.blogspot.com

That was probably my favorite baseball "documentary" that I've ever seen that focused on one team. I just wish that they would have talked about the 1983 team and how they fell apart and made the terrible trade getting rid of Gorman Thomas.
I think Hot Stove shows every weeknight @ 7 est, I could be wrong. Right now they are showing the Caribbean World Series so that's cool too. I can't wait to see what they do with Spring Training and the regular season.Favorite Sports Teams
