I'd be willing to bet Seattle is less GB than Atlanta is by the end of the season. As a whole, the AL West is HORRIBLE and I don't think the M's are going to be as bad as people expect. Assuming no major injuries to their stars and they're a 75-78 win team IMO.

The signing won't make a difference on the field, but I am glad Junior is back. Its been a BRUTAL, BRUTAL year for us Washingtonians and this, along with the hiring of Jack Zduriencik (who I truly believe can win Seattle a World Series), give all of us something to look forward to.

      Woot! Welcome home Junior!

Unfortunately I'm moving to Dallas next week but I'll catch a few games when the M's visit the Rangers.

It is absolute pandemonium in Seattle right now. Radio, TV, internet etc. everyone is talking about it. I have a friend who works at Fox Sports Northwest and she just texted me to say it is absolutely crazy there right now.

Side note: FSN is playing a classic Griffey game against Toronto in 1997. Clemens is pitching and the play-by-play guys were talking about his contract and how he's now getting paid $8 MILLION! Wow, have things changed.

Centerfield? no. How about part of a platoon in LF.

We were looking at platooning him with Diaz and possibly playing a little centerfield, maybe. The Braves certainly weren't going after him as a centerfielder.

I don't know if you heard KJR earlier, but Howard Lincoln was on and said Willie Mays asked if it would be ok for him to call Griffey and talk to Junior about how important his legacy to Seattle is.

I'm loving all of the old highlights from the 90's that have been on tv and radio. I could watch Edgar's double and Junior scoring the winning run against the Yankees in game 5 of the '95 ALDS every day of my life and it'd never get old.

I'm still laughing how fanboy-ishly giddy I am when you consider how unimportant this move is in the W/L category.

I went digging for the quote I read and it was some nonsense spouted by one of the "analysts" from ESPN, not from someone on the Braves staff.

Regardless, Griffey in the field is nothing short of an unmitigated disaster. Atlanta will probably be better off without him.

                      Childress > Griffey's fielding?

                      That's a tough one.

I'm glad you're optimistic this year for the M's. I was last year and learned my lesson. We shall see, I hope you're right. It's up to the pitching and defense this year with the offense we have. I don't see much in the bullpen and who knows if Morrow can last a whole year as a starter.

Last years team was destroyed by the injury bug early on and players coming back to earth that over-achieved in 2007. The difference I see between last years team and this year is that they've rebuilt this team around defense. Hitting and pitching slump, but the defense will always be there. Good luck getting a ball into the gap against an outfield with Gutierrez, Chavez, and Ichiro.

The only thing I'm disappointed about so far this spring is to see Yuni is still a tub-o-lard. He was so exciting defensively his rookie year. He reminded so many people of a young Omar when O came up with the Mariners. I'm hoping Ronnie Cedeno can beat him out. Cedeno may not be a great glove, but at least he's an adequate defensive stop gap until they can find a permanent replacement.
