Wow. The center fielder for Cuba just dropped the 3rd out and allowed Japan to score 2 runs. The pitcher looked heated.

What's up with Cuba's catcher?

Ariel Pestano is vicious. That dude wears his emotions on his sleeve.

With that, he can command a baseball game pretty damn well.

The Venezuelan's are beasts.

Wow is Orel Hershiser blasting the WBC during the Korea Japan game. If asked when he was playing if he'd join the team he'd say no...he got mad with the other guy saying it was ego and said it was priorities...he said he values the world series ring on his finger more than the world baseball classic. All true of course, but he is just blasting it on the heels of Chippers comments, Davey Johnson treating it like extended spring training, and all the USA guys getting hurt. I love the WBC but it looks like it is going to be even worse next time in terms of MLB player participation. You know MLB would love to cut off Orel...their "controlled" guys on their own network could never say these things!

So assuming Japan gets these last 2 outs it looks like we have:

Korea vs. Venezuela, Saturday 9PM
Japan vs. USA, Sunday 8PM

the one good thing for the USA in the semi's is most have seen Dice-k a bit and know to be very patient against him.

I think Japan or Korea will win it all. They play Baseball the way it was meant to be played. Small ball! get a base hit, steal the base. Move the runner over and get a a sac fly.

Watching Japan and Korea play for... oh what, possibly the 5th time... have me really hating how the whole "region" setup is.

It's really annoying when 2 teams can basically keep winning and carrying themselves together in a division and subsequent divisions, playing themselves over and over.

While I like the idea that countries from the same general area play each other in the first round, I'd like more a shakeup the second round. I would have loved to see Venezuela play Cuba, or Japan play Puerto Rico.

I don't mind the double elimination format. I just don't like the way the pools progress. After the first pool, split up the teams completely again and let them all play fresh teams.

Would make things a lot more interesting, IMO.

To me I don't think they care how much they play each other. I think they like it, becasue it is all about pride for them. You can tell they love beating each other. I love watching them play, because they go all out against each other.

Right, but it also makes for less interesting matchups.

I would have love to see more variety in the way the countries are setup against one another. As it is now, we'll never see DR play a team from Asia unless it is in the final four. There should be more variety.

I agree, but I think Japan and Korea like it this way.
