Re: World Baseball Classic '09 - Discussion Thread

Well, that's that. A better showing than in 06, and I credit the players for showing some heart and fighting through injuries. The players cared, that much was clear, the manager either did not or didn't know how to manage. Even if Johnson had made all the right moves, I don't know that this team beats Japan. Japan has become a baseball powerhouse and with guys like Darvish and Matsuzaka in their 20's, figure to remain a that way for a while to come.

It's just embarrassing so many players don't feel the need to participate and so many fans don't want to embrace this tournament like other nations have. I'm not one of those ra-ra USA! USA! types, but I think the American team should have more of a say on the outcome of a tournament for the true America's game. The American baseball team should be like the American basketball team and set the example. The fact is though, other nations love the game more than the US does today, and that's something that's hard to change.

So far, Darvish has maintained he has no interest pitching in America. Sucks for us, but good for Japan (unless his club needs the money).

How can NPB stars going over to the MLB be a bad thing.

You're opening up spots over in Japan for competition for the next generation of stars. And it promotes the need to have good player development (ala $$$ going back to NPB clubs).

Reynolds is appropriately slamming Johnson on the post-game show. I love the MLB Network, they're not afraid to bring the heat against their own.

Kudos to Harold Reynolds. He is busting on Davy Johnson's pitching decisions on the MLB Network.

MLB Network is real television, man. They aren't afraid of anybody, they will call a spade a spade. They really won me over during the whole A-Rod thing when they didn't sugarcoat it or sweep it under the rug.

He's still under team control and with how we develop hitters, you can never have too much good pitching talent.

I just want some bats. We have enough pitchers. Though it would be a good move. I remember how big that Japan Center fielder was with the Asian community. I can't remember his name for some reason. Oh Shinjo.
