First, kissing himself in a mirror, and now...tipping himself the minimum... I mean this whole thing's about his hooters right?

What does tipping 15% at Hooters have to do with steroids. This chick is nuts. Anyone go to high school with her. I'm looking for dirt on this broad. Haha I'm just joking.

              Bond's 2007 season (42 years old)

              28 HRs 66 RBIs 75 R 96 H .276 126 games
The Giants scored only 683 runs that years. That makes Bonds responsible for over 10% of the giants runs. Also almost a third of his hits were homers. The talent was still there

league leader in walks with 132

league leader in OBP with .480

The Home Run King Barry Bonds bottom line. Could've had more if he wasn't blackballed

for comparison Gary Sheffield's last season at 39 years old

              19 HR 57 RBIs 52 R .225 average .326 OBP

That's some soap opera stuff right there. It's no longer about baseball with her and Rodriguez. She's just trying to ruin him as a man.

I don't think many people, as much as they dislike Alex, are really supporting this agenda of hers. She's just going for his throat now and it's getting to be unfair. Crasnick says, "That's what happens when you're famous." No, it's not. Yes, you're famous but it doesn't give people the right to interrogate your life only to slam you. It's disgusting.
I can live without the outside stuff as well and I don't like reading that stuff. Her agenda is to make a ****-ton of money by throwing all this garbage into one book.

BUT...the dude brings a lot of it on himself. The magazine, doing bush league things on the field (the glove slap, yelling "I got it!," etc.), what he says to the media, among other things.

OK, why do you defend Bonds to death but kill Arod for doing the exact same thing?

I think it has to do with the idea that Bonds is being blackballed while Rodriguez isn't.

And nobody ever better question Bonds' RBI numbers for two reasons:

                      1) If you watched every game you wouldn't believe how many double plays and inning-ending outs occurred before his plate appearances to chance himself;

                      2) 2007 RISP w/ 2 out: 27 AB, 29 BB, .661 OBP

With two outs and runners in scoring position, he had more walks than official plate appearances. I don't even mention that he still hit .296 in those situations (and don't dare to bring up his numbers pre-injury where he hit over .400 in this same situation). He's as scary clutch as they get and pitchers don't even give him the chance to produce. So in a year where Bonds was responsible for over 10% of runs, had he been pitched to in these situations and had he not lead off so many innings (1/4 of his plate appearances in 2007), he would have probably been responsible for 20% of their runs.

I don't care if he's 44 or 144 years old: he changes the way managers and players go about the game, not just when he's batting but when he's on deck and when he just took base. If he's due up 4th in the inning pitchers hope for nothing more than retiring the side 1-2-3. He's worth playing in this league, and the herd that follows means more fan attendance. I don't see who loses in this, except the other team when Bonds plays them.

He's worthwhile in this discussion because of the reasons I've stated in this thread and because most people don't seem to want to talk about Rodriguez anyway.

EDIT: Wow, never realized RM84 also used "blackballed." I can't even remember when I heard the term, but I've only heard it once in my life and wanted to use it here. Guess Bonds fans think alike!

                        Must've heard it from me.

I don't think the term is that rare.

Also, I don't think it just has to do with Bonds being blackballed because I seem to remember RM84 ripping into Arod as soon as the info came out that he had been juicing.

It may not be, but I've only heard it once before.

That could be, and I would understand as some people have personal feelings that way.

Consider that I see everything... everything judgmentally except when it comes to my favorite player. You must understand that I realize that I am being biased. In fact, I purposefully throw it out there every time a situation comes up where a team "should sign him." In a way it's to balance those that are against him. Sometimes you need "end-of-the-spectrum" arguments to see both points and sides. That's all I'm doing. I guess RM84 is taking it a step further by making it extremely personal, but I still like to keep Bonds on a fair playing field here, despite his age and exclusionary status from the MLB.

Bottom line: the sooner he would ever be signed, the younger he would be. If he was signed last year he would only be 43. If he is signed before July he would only be 44. Let's not wait until next year where I have to argue for a 45 year old, it just makes my side look worse each year when really he should have been playing (based on statistics alone, mind you) after his contract was up.

Oh, and just so no one takes any of these posts the wrong way, I'm typing in a very calm manner. This is a "friendly debate" to me, mind you. I'm not trying to acerbate anyone here (if anyone was under that impression by my context or content).

I don't prefer all the outside stories either, but they comprise a very controversial man who happens to play for the most visible team in the most media-hyped city on the planet.

Don't like it? Don't do steroids and stay in Seattle in the first place.
That's not the point of my post, though.

We know he did steroids. Fine. We get it. Write a book about it. Obviously, the guy didn't use steroids for three years and stop. Obviously, he didn't just suddenly start in 2001 because of the pressure of the contract. I like to take a person's word until he's proven wrong and Roberts has seemingly done a good job proving he's wrong. So, good for her.

Bringing in how much he tips at Hooters, kissing himself in a mirror, giving away signs (something that no one seems to prove at this point) and making passes at player's wives and girlfriends isn't bringing it on to yourself. Those have nothing to do with steroids.

I realize the book is about Alex Rodriguez. So, yea, she's going to cover things outside of steroids. The point is that Alex Rodriguez isn't the first person to do those things. Selena Roberts is being clever here and she's coming off as offensive. She's using the steroids story to pile on the other crap so people will pay attention. Guys are giving ARod a hard time about tipping the minimum at Hooters. I mean, are people really serious here? You hate the guy because he tips the minimum at Hooters? Be for real.

Hate him because he took steroids. That makes sense. Hating him because of other things that most people do is just choosing to hate someone that people always hated. Because if you didn't know, people hated ARod before they knew he used steroids. Before. And why did they hate him? Because they wanted to. That's gold.

I don't think you should even hate him for using steriods. You can hate him for being a liar. I agree with everything else you said and definitely the general point. It's a shame for her too, bc after the steroids thing came out her book got a lot of attention. ARod tried to attack her so she also looked like the victim. This extra crap may have evened the playing field a bit. Some hate ARod more but now some feel sorry for him.

Bottom line, they're both (Roberts and Arod) liars with little or no credibility. I don't know why SI hired this woman after her role in the Duke case and I've never enjoyed any of her other reporting. This book is just ridiculous. She dug up photo evidence to prove Arod used aluminum bats in high school (apparently he's told people he used wood) and blames his behavior on his childhood. Apparently the woman fancies herself some kind of psychologist. I pity anyone who gets suckered into wasting their money on this drivel tomorrow.
