So no one thinks Jay Bruce's debut wasn't tops over Price?

just thinking back on the Cubs there's Wood, Patterson,Prior, and most recently Pie
I don't know about "much more" but I think as far as the media goes, Price was on par or slightly more hyped. I'd guess that the other factor of the city getting pumped for the call up doesn't factor in with Price though. Baltimore is much more of a baseball town looking for something to get them happy about the team again while I'd think Tampa was still waiting for a reason to care about the team down there. They now have it and I still don't think they're all in.

All those Cubs examples are great ones... accept Pie. Don't remember much hype about him, and now that I get to see him play, I'd be more disappointed if I did see more hype.

I think Bruce was about equal to Price and Wieters. Bailey's another... still waiting on that one to pan out. Forgot about Soriano too... I think overall he ended up better than expected but there was a lot of hype around him.

Blake Dean. Best hitter in the NCAA, no doubt. a little streaky but that'l be fixed by some time in the minors

I'm looking forward to that as well. Hanson looks nasty down in the minors.

And I don't think Blake Dean is considered the best hitter in college baseball. Actually I'm sure of it. Solid player though.

I think the Price hype increased because of Tampa's great season. He got called up in September on a contending team. The Orioles.. yeah, not so much.

I do remember the Jay Bruce hype. That was pretty big. I expected LaPorta to be hyped a little more than he actually was. Maybe he'll get another dose of hype when he comes back up.

As a Pirates fan, the name Matt Wieters will always sting. How in the hell Dave Littlefield thought that Daniel Moskos was a better pick than Matt Wieters is beyond me.

That's a little known fact outside of Pittsburgh. Many think the Pirates passed on Wieters because of money. Not true. Former GM Dave Littlefield was quoted as saying that he picked Moskos because he thought Moskos was a better prospect. Yes, an average college relief pitcher is a better prospect than Wieters? No wonder Littlefield was fired and could only find a job as a scout (which is ironic since he obviously didn't scout Moskos/Wieters very well).

Yea LaPorta's hype was big, but everything surrounding him last year was more/less due to the CC trade. His debut, unless you were a Cleveland fan, was a drop in the bucket IMO.

Bruce, Price, and Wieters were all front page news...at least on ESPN right now.

The funny thing is that Matt Wieters was possibly even a better RP prospect than Moskos

Dude was pushing 96-98 with regularity.

I'd say Felix Hernandez's was up there because he was so young and was hyped to save the franchise ala Griffey.

but me calling Blake Dean the best hitter in the NCAA is from me sitting in that stands watching him play.

Dustin Ackley's widely regarded as the best college hitter, along with Grant Green from USC (who I hope the O's take at 5).

Was I the only one who remember JD Drew's hype before he played a game? Between him and Jared Weaver, I can't remember anyone bigger than that.

I don't think so. Every year there is someone that is hyped up. I haven't heard anything about Wieters here in Texas, and if I didn't follow prospects I probably wouldn't have even known he was making his debut.
