I remember. But I think it was more because of the story around him (that I can't remember the exact details of) than just because he was supposed to be pretty good. I know somebody remembers. JBH3, why were your boys throwing batteries at Drew?

      Boo the Drew.

Because he refused to sign w/ Philly since we didn't ante up $10mil to a prospect...ugh...Scott Boras man...I hate that guy.

So STL drafted him the next yr, and it's better this way anyway...a softie like him would never make it in Philly.

      BOooooooooooooooo the Drew.

          Sidd Finch.

In all seriousness there is one of these hyped call-ups every other year.

Strawberry's call-up was more anticipated than anything I've seen in recent memory. He was going to be the black Ted Williams and that hype machine far surpassed anything I've read about Weitmer.

Todd Van Poppel was another one that comes to mind.

That's it. I knew it had to do with something along the lines of batteries being thrown at him in Philly...I just couldn't remember why.

I think Strasburgs is going to be the biggest once he comes up because of all the hype he's been getting now

Ricky Ledee by every writer in New York. Seriously. Dumb writers.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

His loss won't have the slightest effect on the massive hype his debut will get.

Going to a game now and hearing the fans cheer "Brruuuuuuuuuuuce!" when he walks up to the plate is music to my ears.

                      Cincinnati loves the kid.

He only gave up 2 of those runs as well. It's saying something when 7 IP, 2 ER, 15 K is a "down" performance. His offense just didn't pick him up.

His debut will certainly get a ton of hype, assuming he keeps pitching at this level in the minors.

He was supposed to be the next Mantle.

                              Ruben Rivera too.

Agreed, he's a monster. Also, he's a very hard worker which will only help him get better and better as time goes on. Probably my favorite player on the reds now.
