Not enough to get Buchholz on their own. One or two minor leaguers would likely have to be included.

There was some rumor that the Giants were in the picture. But that just seems crazy!

Unless Hanley Ramirez magically becomes available (or the Cardinals want to deal Pujols), Buchholz isn't going anywhere. The Red Sox have made it crystal clear he is virtually untouchable.

They already have Lester, Masterson and Bowden, all of whom are 25 or under. Surely, they can afford to trade Buchholz.

I'm not saying they can't I'm just pointing out the reality of the situation. I personally don't think anyone in the Red Sox system is untouchable, but my opinion obviously doesn't matter. Boston has made it company policy to not trade young pitching (or apparently even old pitching like Penny and Saito) and we're left to wait and see how that turns out.

Unless it involves Cain or Lincecum the talk stops there. And I don't think the Giants are crazy enough to trade either one just for a run this year.

Damn it, why didn't that Rios for Cain deal go through again ?

Joe Nathan, Boof Bonser and Francisco Liriano to the Twins for A.J. Pierzynski and cash.

Signed Barry Zito to a seven-year deal worth $126 million, plus an option for an eighth season at $18 million. Zito's contract on December 29, 2006, became the highest for any pitcher in Major League history at the time.

Brian Sabean is crazy enough to trade Tim Lincecum for a bag of rocks. Anything is possible with that idiot.

If the Sox were to get involved i think they would be dangling Buchholz at Toronto for Halladay, not play middle man for the Cardinals.

But that is what Gammons mentioned. With Ortiz coming around i don't think the Red Sox need to add a bat is as big as it once was. If anything they need to look for bullpen help.

The Giants could probably get a deal done without Cain and Lincecum. They can offer quantity if not quality.

The Giants need offense though and some of what they could offer for Halladay may be headed to Pittsburgh for Freddy Sanchez and Adam LaRoche.

Just what this city needs. Another reason to be apathetic about baseball.

J.P. Riccardi needs to be put on the chopping block.

Well Penny and Saito could still very well go...they simply stand as insurance at the moment for a 42 year old starter and a bullpen that's had some shaky moments as of late. I'd be surprised if neither is dangled during trade talks.

Yeah the FAN here in Toronto had an interview with a guy from the Canadian Press who was at the press conference this morning. A couple things that were of interest (in the media scrum after the presser) was that Halladay, who is a very private man and doesn't like the spotlight shining in his face full bore said that he may have to take a chance at going to a major media market in order to win.

Halladay was asked explicitly if these are his last days in Toronto and according to the guy Halladay tried very hard not to look emotional basically this whole situation is tearing Halladay up because he's said time and time again throughout his career that he wants to win with the Blue Jays but it's looking like that's not going to happen and a trade may be the best thing for both sides.

As a Jays fan this is pretty melancholy stuff but at least I know that Halladay bleeds Blue Jay blue even if he's pitching for another team.

Halladay could win with the Jays but the only that can happen is they have to get rid of Ricciardi.

Roy is a great pitcher who almost seems like his talent is wasted in Toronto right now.
If his chances are "50/50" i wonder if teams like the Phillies or Dodgers or any other big city/market teams come calling if he will refuse to waive his no-trade claus but if teams like the Cardinals or Brewers, who play in smaller markets with less media coverage and a more family friendly fan base will he ok a trade?.

Okay so, Toronto said today that they will not take offers until July 31st.

Meanwhile, the Phillies beat writers are really trying to get the word out that the Phils do not want to pay Halladay all that money due to their "budget". They say this is why Pedro will be brought instead.
