ok, it was a bad call, no a horrible call, however....
1. Rivera was getting squeezed a bit too, the contention that he was getting calls is silly
2. Hillenbrand had no business trying to score in the top of the 9th, you had a totally rattled Rivera on the mound, stay safe and keep the pressure on. The momentum shifted right back to NY on that play.
3. Manny got a terrible jump on the Matsui ball, it should have been an out, than he compunded his mistake by making an awful throw. If you wanna point to one play that killed the Sox it was that one.
Yes, that was a terrible call, Posada should have been out. Maybe the ump did not have the guts to pull the trigger in Yankee stadium, who knows. What I do know is that King George is NOT paying the umps. Lets be rational here and discuss the game in the real world.

I think he just overreacted about the paying the umps. Happens many times after a close game. Anyways it wasn't Hillenbrand's fault the 3rd base coach waved him in." I look at him and it's getting to the point where it's just scaring me. He looks younger but he doesn't carry himself in a younger manner. He's impressive, and I'm glad we drafted him. "

Re: Steinbrenner pays the umps
Thats another thing... the red sox coaching pisses the hell out of me. Why walk those 2 guys when you have a guy like Lyon who's never been in a pressure situation like that and you cant count on to get strikes. Although it was a tough situation thanks to the ever so fat manny.... that ball should have been caught, hillenbrand should have scored, RED SOX SHOULD HAVE WON.
Oh god... my head hurts

The true error of this game was Moose's leadoff walk to start this damn rally." I look at him and it's getting to the point where it's just scaring me. He looks younger but he doesn't carry himself in a younger manner. He's impressive, and I'm glad we drafted him. "

Re: Steinbrenner pays the umps
it's not terrible to be angry, i'm angry. Just be rational. Be angry at Manny, be angry at the 3rd base coach, and be angry at the ump. When you make crazy statements like "Steinbrenner pays the umps!" it just adds credence to the idea that Sox fans are obsessed with King George and the Yanks...which we are.
Personally I would rather have seen Lyon groove one down the middle on 3-2 and see what Posada could do. I think Lyon let himself get rattled by the bad call. Just more evidence that the Sox don't have the right people in the bullpen, but we knew that already.

Walking those two guys was the right move, the only move, unless you want to pitch to Soriano who has about 50 HR's against the Sox already in his career. Once you walk Soriano, you have to walk Giambi to set up the double play. There is too much chance that you won't get Soriano on the front end of that double play, you want Giambi on first and Posada coming down the line to set up the double play. Lyon made every pitch he wanted to in that at bat except the last. The first to balls he threw were sinkers down and in that he just couldn't get Posada to chase. He just choked on 3-2, threw another sinker for some reason, just a bad decision with the bases loaded and a 3-2 count.
What do you mean by Hillenbrand should have been safe? He never should have left third, it wasn't close at the plate.Comment
