they were both close, but Lyon's pitch was over the plate and Rivera's was not, it's that simple. There were a few other pitches Rivera got squeezed on, but that one was clearly a ball.

Again, I disagree. It was not CLEARLY a ball. Just like the pitch to Posada was not CLEARLY a strike. They were both close and could have been easily called strikes. It's that simple.

Did anyone see that call? Not only did he call balls strikes for Rivera, that ball 3 was clearly a strike by Lyon. Absolute ABSOLUTE BS!!!! It wasnt even close, strike 3 posada is out. This game was stolen

I guess you weren't watching Rivera paint the corner for a game ending strike out in the top of the 9th? Oh wait, that was called a ball. Umpires are human, and whether either (or both) of the 2 strike pitches by Lyon and Rivera should have been called strikes, they were not. It's part of the game. Both batters could have swung to protect the plate...true? Do you get this upset after every call by the ump which you disagree with? I hope not. If Steinbrenner was paying the umps, Lyon wouldn't have been pitching in the bottom of the 9th. The game would have ended 5-4. Of course while we're speculating, if Jeter gets a good jump on the ball Nomar hit (think it was Nomar), force at second or possible dp. Be happy you're in first place. I would be.

And do you have ESPN strike zone or a similar camera that shows the ball crossing the plate? I don't. If they had that view, then we could say that it crossed the plate or didn't. Same is true for Posada's. When they do have that camera, I have been humbled when questioning an umps call, and vice versa.

I'm pretty sure I could identify the Yankee and Red Sox fans here.

It's all about who's ox is being gored.

As a totally IMPARTIAL National League fan, who just wanted to see a good game,
Rivera was the one getting squeezed, not Lyons. The entire Red Sox rally stemmed from the Yanks not getting corner calls and then having to groove pitches.
Anyways, it was a great game and will be a great race.

BTW- what was that logo on the side of the Yankee hats.

I hate the Yankees and am, by no stretch of the imagination, a Yankees fan but you have to admit that the last pitch was clearly a ball. It was too low...............BUT if you want to argue the pitch before that.....then we can argue that pitch should have been a strike.
But please don't call that last pitch a strike. That ball was wayyyyyyy to low.
