    7/27 - 8/2 MLB DISCUSSION

Well...since no one created it I guess I should.

Phils win again last night and Lincecum...

    15K CG & 2 runs allowed on 4 hits.

    What a performance!

Nats have won 3 in a row, but are still wayyyy behind everyone else.

I was looking over some teams and players at Baseball-Reference and something caught my eye regarding the Nationals lineup; in particular Willingham, Johnson and Dunn.

      Willingham: .298/.410/.596, 162 OPS+
      Dunn: .278/.405/.554, 151 OPS+
      Johnson: .295/.407/.405, 116 OPS+

I decided to do some deeper digging and what I found is pretty mind blowing. The Nats have three players with an OBP over .400, no other team in baseball has more than two. The combined OPS+ of Willingham and Dunn is higher than any pair of teammates in all of baseball except for Braun-Fielder and Mauer-Morneau.

That's what you get when you have starting pitching that would get hit hard by most college teams...

Topped off by a pretty awful defense behind them.

How is that relevant to the production of Willingham, Dunn and Johnson?

              It isn't.

It's more a comment about how no matter how many good hitters you have, pitching is really much more important than hitting.

Rangers took a game from the Tigers last night

Texas' offense is starting to scare me.

They're both equally important and yes, the Nats pitching is absolute crap outside of Lannan and the potential for Zimmerman and Stammen. I have very little to be happy about so it's nice having nice production at the plate out of those guys. Even though I honestly think the Nats should be shopping Johnson, Dunn and possibly Willingham for prospects.

I was actually going to say that they should trade some of that for some pitching...would make a lot of sense.

Dunn for Bumgarner and Alderson. Sabean is stupid enough to do it.

To top it all off, we have Bills on the mound tonight. Great.

...not to mention the worst bullpen in baseball.

They've "got" someone who can help their pitching out...

They just need to sign his a$$.
