Re: Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz on "The List"

I don't really believe Ortiz's story but the media loves the guy and calls him the leader of the Red Sox (um? not Varitek?) so he's not gonna get grilled.

BTW there's a report out there that 8 names on the list DIDN'T test positive for steroids.

I don't care about any reports on the "list". This **** should stop being leaked already, because it's violating players privacy. Either release every name, or release no names. There's no reason only the ARod's and David Ortiz's of the world should be getting eposed, while others aren't.

Why is Alex a liar but Ortiz is genuine? It's ridiculous.

Yeah, they only defend Ortiz because he was a fan favorite, please...

Let me guess, you think A-Rod deserved to be defended too, right?

A-Rod was the MLB's golden boy who was supposed to retake the HR records and wipe steroids from the top of the list. A-Rod admitted to using steroids. Papi deserves the benefit of the doubt until he is allowed to find out what he was using that triggered the test. But you would never give a Red Sock the benefit of the doubt, would you?

What do you mean please? What other player have they defended?

Let me guess, you think A-Rod deserved to be defended too, right?
No, A-Rod cheated and deserved what happened. But it's bs that he admits to it and is at least somewhat honest, and it's a huge story for weeks with ESPN and company breaking down and poking holes in every thing he says trying to catch him in a lie. Ortiz uses the same excuse that many other players have used, players who the media tears to shreds for it. But for Ortiz they say how genuine he sounded and they move on.

A-Rod was the MLB's golden boy who was supposed to retake the HR records and wipe steroids from the top of the list.
A-Rod is a great player but he's never been the face of baseball like an Ortiz or Jeter. He's hated throughout baseball.

A-Rod admitted to using steroids. Papi deserves the benefit of the doubt until he is allowed to find out what he was using that triggered the test. But you would never give a Red Sock the benefit of the doubt, would you?
The report came out and he said he was going to find out what happened and get back to us. He waits 10 days, and then has a press conference that says he still doesn't know what happened. Right. I'm sure he's working hard on figuring this out.

Actually, if there's any time to believe him during this whole thing, it's in this press conference. This list is very exclusive, no one in major league baseball has their hands on it. Even the government doesn't have their hands on it. People don't even know how it's leaking, but it is. I guarantee that Ortiz is trying very hard to clear his name (or at least figure out what happened), and he devotes eight waking hours a day to baseball. It won't be easy for him to dig some of this stuff up, especially in this time when they're fighting for a spot in the AL East and they're in a road series against their longtime rivals.

I'll believe that discovering what's up is tougher than it seems to both you and me.

              Exactly this.

Like I said, Ortiz deserves the benefit of the doubt until we know what happened. He cannot legally find out what he tested positive for. Not yet at least. So you shouldn't be so quick to jump the gun and call him a liar. He may be, but we do not know that yet.

Or he knows he took steroids and is lying. Nah, its Big Papi.

His story doesn't even make sense. Supposedly he used to take a lot of supplements without knowing whats in them, but then he became better educated about them. If he educated himself about supplements and what was in them, he would have a pretty good idea of what could have caused the positive test.

I suppose, but that's why I'm saying this is the most plausible time to believe him of all times. We don't have to believe he didn't take steroids, but I think he just wants hard evidence is all. He wants something on paper that he can document and showcase to everyone if he wants to try and bypass.

I understand what you're saying, I'm just saying that these days everything is about evidence.

Re: Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz on "The List"

If you absolutely didn't take steroids, you'd say "I didn't take steroids, that report isn't true." Ortiz hasn't really done that, much like the others who have gotten exposed. That's why it's hard to believe he didn't.

I would imagine that he took them. I always attributed his success in Boston (compared to in Minnesota) part steroids use and part hitting with Manny. You don't suddenly become an elite power hitter like that, you just don't. He had a number of downright ridiculous offensive seasons.
