I personally don't like Sammy just because. But I really like baseball. That said I hope he is telling the truth. I don't know whether to believe him or not. A reporter asked a pretty good question...

"So coould you not tell the difference between a game bat and BP bat?" ...

then sammy kinda avoided the question. he said something but it didn't apply.

        Either way..Sammy

If they test all bats and that was the only one i guess i can leave with it..but he still shouldnt have them corked...who's to say that 25% of his home runs he grabs the wrong bat and just doesnt know it...sammy

Thing is dookie you don't really know that about many players. According to Dave Otto a local Chicago guy who played for the A's and Pirates and Cubs, the sound a corked bat makes is different and most bats are not corked as low as the one Sosa was using. If what Otto said is true i would have to think that people would have challenged Sosa's bat a long time ago if it was corked.

Again people will think what they want, their are those who wait for the famous to make a mistake so they can kick when they are down.

I think the competitiveness of most professional athletes will make them do things that the shouldn't do, like McGuire and creatine, or whatever he was taking.

Early in his career, when Sammy played in the Dominican winter leagues, a girlfriend accused him of hitting her with a liquor bottle. The charges were eventually dropped, apparently she made the story up in an attempt to get some money out of Sosa.

I believe Sammy made an accident. Believe what you want, but I stand behind him.

He shouldn't even be showing off in batting practice. Just be yourself, man. Don't show off what you really can't do, 'cause then y ou are just a big disappointment in the game when you are 0-4 with 3 K's.

And one other thing, Sosa may have power, and he may not. However, people believe that Sosa, jsut because he hits more homeruns, is a better homerun hitter than Barry Bonds. Bonds is a better hitter AND homerun hitter. I tell ya, if Bonds and Sosa had the same amount of at bats AND wre pitched to equally (even times that Bonds does get pitched to, he's still getting pitches that are trying to go off the plate away), then Bonds would have like... 30 more homers than Sosa, and a much... MUCH better average than Sosa. Remember that Bonds got 198 walks last year, and like... 64 were intentionaly or something. That's just unfair as Sosa gets pitched to.

That's just what I think though.

I like Sosa a lot. I can understand why everybody would think that he's been using a corked bat, but wouldn't that mean that his bats woulda been breaking with shown evidence a while ago ? He's been playin for a while, hittin homers for a while, If he had been using corked bats we'dve known a while ago...

This is not true of all players, some guys are like this, others are constantly changing bats to find one that feels right or has some hits in it. Just an article in TSN about this, Carlos Pena is always trying different bats. Edgar martinez uses different weighted bat in different situations, but hey don't let facts get in the way of your dislike of Sosa. The little bit I played in High School and the whole lot I played for recreation I always changed bats, cause at different times they felt different.

Craig Nettles did it and people just recall that he was a good player an excellent fielder his career is not marred by it.
