    Re: Pirate Fans (Please Read)

Benson is rumored to be on the block but I still think it would take a lot for the Pirates to acually pull the trigger. The reason Benson has been shelled lately is that he is having some arm injuries and hasn't told anyone. The Pirates are going to throw on the side, to see if this problem can be resolved without having to go on the DL. Thats what i heard

My personal version of Nobody Asked Me But....
<ul type="square">[*]I think the time has come for Mac and the Pirates to part ways. If you look at how the team performs, there are flashes of good play, but it's not done on a consistent basis. I can only look to the manager because of this. It's his job to make sure that his players give the same effort game in, game out, and that hasn't happened with the Pirates. In addition, he's way too easy going about the team's problems. He always has a "Well, it'll work itself out eventually" attitude, at least in the press and this is suggestive that he's not very hands-on when it comes to off-field managing.
[*]I don't put much stock in the Pirates Q&amp;A, because the only letters they seem to publish are negative, and they dwelled on the Kevin Young thing way too long. In fact, I don't really care for much in the Post-Gazette, because they have the biggest group of gloomer columnists ever assembled (and a real *** in Mark Madden).
[*]I wouldn't trade Benson for anyone unless I was getting a pitcher in return. Unless Vogelsong pitches amazingly well tomorrow, the Pirates really don't have much in the starting pitching department. Besides, if Ramirez could turn his season around, why not Benson? [*] Playing Jack Wilson in the 7 spot is a waste. He's thrived in the 2 spot, and with his contact and history of hitting singles, Kendall would be a good fit in the 8 spot[*]If I were managing, I'd have benched Kendall for failing to block the plate against Tampa Bay [*]How much longer until the Pirates cut Brian Boehringer?[/list]

I think they will keep Boehringer for the rest of the season my question is how long till Sauerbeck is gone? I think they are looking to trade him to a contending team who needs bullpen help.

A number of thoughts on the subjects:

I agree that McClendon should be let go. Yeah, he's an optimist, but I think he has a similar problem that Gene Lamont had; no respect in the clubhouse. Supporting your players sometimes means kicking them in the rear. Like how he called out Benson only to back off. That's bull.

Benson is soft. He doesn't have a killer instinct out there. And, the team is saying his arm is okay, his mechanics are off.

The guy they should have canned a LONG TIME AGO is Spin Williams. Who the hell is this guy? Do you realize how many talented pitchers the Bucs have traded away, only to become good somewhere else? Jason Schmidt. Jon Lieber. Esteban Loaiza.

On a Jason Kendall note; watching Game 2 of the Bucs-Expos game. Craig Wilson just blocked the plate and tagged out an Expos runner. How much is he making a year? And Kendall can't block the plate? Or throw anybody out? Or sacrifice a runner into scoring position?

I don't know about that. What he does lack is something like a good curveball to keep hitters honest. Everything he throws is hard, which makes it easy for batters to tee off on him. When he can throw a good changeup (which he was earlier in the year, and not now) he's a much better pitcher.

That's really not fair. Jason Schmidt became a top-notch player when he had a good team around him. Esteban Loaiza just became a good player this year, and I'm still not sold on him. I do regret losing Jon Lieber, though I blame Cam Bonifay for that one, since he was traded for the awful Brant Brown. Plus, Spin Williams just became the pitching coach recently. Pete Voukovich (the guy who played Clew Heywood in Major League) was the pitching coach when Loaiza, Lieber, and Schmidt were there.

Even Keith Osik made Kendall look bad on the defensive side of things. I haven't seen Wilson try to throw anyone out that I can recall, but he can't be any worse than Kendall. Half of the time, he drops the ball!

To be fair, Kendall would have made the out at home...it wasn't even close.

I totally agree. Though Craig Wilson isn't a bunter either, I'd rather see him in the 6 spot rather than see Kendall waste the 2 spot.

And I don't care if he's 39, Jeff Reboulet should be the starting 2B until further notice. He makes the most out of every play he's in, and players can learn a lot from watching him.
