Of COURSE they're successful, for most of the reasons listed on the petition. They have their own TV network, which is really a way of hiding money used to play their players from the revenue sharing system.

    Here we go again..
You think the Yanks are the only team with their own tv station? Believe it or not there are others in the Bigs who own their own tv stations, and there are more coming.. I believe ChiSox are starting one. The Cards, Braves, and Cubs I believe are few of the teams who own a network which aids them.
I'm repeating this for about a 1,000th time, THE YANKEES AREN'T THE REASON WHY MLB IS IN THE SHAPE IT IS TODAY.

      Re: Petition(LOL!)

The Braves don't own a network. Turner owned the Braves and TBS, so it was a natural fit for them to use it. I have no doubt that the YES network was created for the sole purpose to make money that wouldn't have to be included in revenue sharing. It's not like TBS is a Braves-only network like YES is a Yankees-only network.

The Yankees aren't the sole reason for the downslide of baseball. You can't blame them for A-Rod's contract, for example. However, they are the dominating force for the reason baseball economics are the way that they are. The "Why develop your own players when you can buy them from someone else?" attitude that they've had of late. Sure they have home-grown talent, but the last group of names I can remember are Pettite, Williams, and Jeter. Soriano maybe, but he came from elsewhere.

If anything the Yankees are a reason that MLB is still around. They are a successful, big market team and, although I don't have proof, they are probably the top team in terms of revenue brought into the league. Without teams like the Yankees, the MLB would be in much more trouble that it is now. And with the new revenue sharing deal, they will be helping out other clubs. Its the owners that decide to pocket that extra money instead of signing players that are killing baseball.

What about Nick Johnson, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, Juan Rivera and Erick Almonte who played a huge part in the season so far. But yes, Soriano came over from Japan. I think the Yankees gave him $14 million over 3 years, so other teams just did not want him as bad.

That's the biggest bunch of BS I've seen. If not for the Yankees' monopolizing of talent, other teams would be competing for the World Series and baseball would be more popular in more areas.

For proof, look at the fact that baseball's popularity has gone up a bit over the past few years, not coincidentally the same time that the Yankees did NOT win the World Series.

Alright... I've gotten many an ulcer from discussing this beat-*** topic, so I'm stating my 0.02 now and i'm done..

The Yanks are NOT the only reason baseball is in a horrid state of affairs. They are not the one's that signed A-Rod, they are not the ones that started the escalating payrolls, HOWEVER, once the high payrolls started, Yankees did it, and did it, and did and did it again... Jeter, Giambi, Posada, most notably are paid more than I believe they are worth... if any of those three are worth the money they are paid, i'd go with Giambi. No slight on the guys, they are all good ball players, but I think the amount they are paid severely skew the payscale around the league, and I'm sure it's not going to end there either.

Now don't get me wrong, I've done my share of Yankee bashing in my day, but to be honest, I've come to the realization that it's not the Yankees I dislike, it's that piece of steamy monkey crap George Steinbrenner..

I'll apologize now for jumping around here a little, I just got a handful of points and they are all fighting to be posted here...lol.

Now, I don't believe money is the ONLY reason the Yanks are successful, it's also a product of good scouting, good training, and, to be honest, stern management.. Joe Torre is old-school.

Now let's see the Yanks make a poor decision and dump a buttload of money on a prospect and he doesn't pan out *cough*Henson*cough*, what happens? Nothing. They chalk it up as a loss and go after another guy to dump money on, and with scouting like the Yanks got, they tend to only put money on quality players and it works out. Now go to the same scenario for a small-market team... They dump a buttload on a prospect and he doesn't pan out... they are eventually forced to bring him up and play him so as not to make a total waste of their money (ie: Pirates with Chad Hermanson) and eventually either eat the extent of the contract or release him and STILL have to pay it, and in turn will NOT be able to sign help they need to cover that previous flop.

Basically put the MLB has turned into a big old game of "a$$hole"...where the a$$shole loses his hand and has to give up his two best cards in the next hand to the guy that won the previous hand... thus making it essentially unlikely to climb out, not impossible, but VERY VERY difficult.
