What about Nick Johnson, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, Juan Rivera and Erick Almonte who played a huge part in the season so far. But yes, Soriano came over from Japan. I think the Yankees gave him $14 million over 3 years, so other teams just did not want him as bad.

Yup that Almonte Guy sure did a good job filling in for Jeter.Filled in great with those 5 errors in like 12 or so games.

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

The point he wanted to make was that THEY DIDN'T go after Tejada or other players to fill in the void like you know they could. You're here critisizing the Yanks for bringing up a player from the Minors to fill in for Jeter? You would be probably crying if they were to trade for your team's SS.

See, thing is, Yanks fans can see their point and not ours...

The biggest advantage they have in all honesty, is the fact that THEIR homegrown talent (which there IS a lot of) normally stays there because they are paid really well, and sometimes too much considering how they rate among other players of those positions. Thus they can breed players without fear of losing them... while small markets try to breed a good player, all the time KNOWING this guy will get good and opt to go where big money is... thus keeping the same team together is essentially impossible. And when a cap is discussed, Yankee fans get all in an uproar because "Lord forbid" they can't keep all THEIR players.

You're partly right. Yanks do manage to pay well their OWN home-grown players which allow them to stay on the same team. One example is Jeter. I believe he's overpaid and I do admit he is overrated. He comes in handy in the playoffs. Another player who isn't making much is Soriano. For the numbers he's putting up, it's a crime to pay him what we do.
The Yanks can't sign everyone so saying other teams' players threaten to leave because they will get paid well by the Yanks is inaccurate.

Well, I'm sure they expected Soriano to do well, but he's rapidly becoming a top-notch player.. actually I believe he developed a little faster than even THEY anticipated.. i'm sure when his ocntract is up, he'll get 20 mil/year. At least 15. As for Jeter, he's a great SS, good team leader, i've seen awesome plays, and he's solid... but to pay him the same amount as A-Rod or damn near and the numbers HE puts up, and then compare to Jeter? Then yes, if Jeter went to arbitration, he'd be getting a fair amount less than he's getting now.

And soriano not getting paid as much as he's worth, it's true, but he's in the same boat as Mark Prior, Adam Dunn, Austin Kearns, Barry Zito, Mark Mulder... once their first contracts are up, THEN you'll see them prices skyrocketing.

What I would like to see done is have another team relocate to New York or New Jersey. NY is big enough for 3 teams and I'm sure a team like the Expos could prosper there. But George would never let this happen because it would hurt his own bottom line. He wouldn't want to share the market with another team. I think it's what is best for baseball and would love to see that happen.
