Re: ALDS: Twins vs Yankees
I hope the folks in Minnesota make so much noise that it'll be impossible for the Yanks to concentrate. I'm talking 1987 noise levels here.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

This. The rest is speculation. It was a blown call. We've seen plenty of them in our lives and it never feels right, no matter which side you're on.
Unfortunately, nothing changes it and the result is the result."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. While I agree, I can bet that Yankee fans would be up in arms if the shoe was on the other foot. I wouldn't expect Twins fans to just shrug their shoulders and move on. The Twins had every opportunity to win without the call though...Nathan blowing it, the bases loaded in the 11th."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. My point is that there is nothing we can do. If it happened to the Yankees (and I've seen my fair share of blown calls against the Yanks in the postseason), I would be upset about it, but my anger won't change a thing. I feel bad for the Twins fans because it affected the result, but what am I supposed to do? Should I hate my hometown team because the umpire blew a call?"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. I sure hope the Twins add real power to the lineup next year since they are going be playing outside next year.. The Yankees are too powerful ..Comment

Re: ALDS: Twins vs Yankees
Of course I don't expect the Twins fans to be comfortable with the result. I'm expecting to hear/read them complain about it all series and into the future. And they are right to complain. It was a blown call that could have changed that entire 11th inning.

Re: ALDS: Twins vs Yankees
how can you assume that everything would'be gone down the same way if mauer's hit had been ruled fair? Maybe the next 3 guys strike out, maybe someone cranks a homer....who knows? Fact is that once you get to bases loaded without any outs you need to push ay least one run across.Comment

Re: ALDS: Twins vs Yankees
Maybe he trips rounding first, maybe the left fielder fumbles the ball in the corner, maybe there is a throwing error.
There are way too many variables in baseball to wonder what would have happened. Which leads to...

It was a crappy call but the bottom line is that the Twins should have been nowhere near extra innings, the game was theirs. Nathan is a complete disaster when he plays the Yanks!“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Re: ALDS: Twins vs Yankees
Realistically, if we rewind what happened using what was done after Mauer's hit, one run scores which would have been tied in the bottom of the inning and the game would have continued if nothing else happened after Tex's homer.

I understand that, just talking worst case scenario based on what happened after Mauer's hit IF it occurred the same way.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Re: ALDS: Twins vs Yankees
Perhaps Marte implodes, perhaps he strikes out the side. We don't know, but it's not at all a stretch to assume that Mauer would have been stranded at 2nd.
If you want to assume the same sequence of events would have occurred after Mauer's "double", then you also have to assume Texiera would have tied it with the home run.I write things on the Internet.
