i hear EDMONDS a lot, and JONES. Here's my take.
it has to be BELTRAN or JONES b/c they put up nunmbers in every category. Edmonds won't steal the bases that beltran and jones will. So what if he plays good D, so do Beltrtan and Jones. They both hit for power as well as edmonds does, and for average too.
No other two CFs compare, simnply b/c these two put up in every area of teh game.
WELLS is good, and PATTERSON will be better, and EDMONDS is solid, BUT.......THERE IS NO REASON TO TALK ABOUT "TOTAL PACKAGE" AND "BEST OFFENSIVE" AND "BEST DEFENSIVE".
Total Package answers the question. "Edmonds is best defensive" SO? That makes him thrid best.
    THE QUESTION ASKED FOR "BEST"
    BELTrAN OR JONES

How come no one is talking about Milton Bradley? He is having a great offensive year, and is starting to take command in the outfield, did you guys see his catch yesterday against Dunn it was amazing, I would say Milton Bradley is the best up and coming CF, probably Jones ATL overall, Hunter Best defensive, and Edmunds(sp) Best Offensive............. Also Bradley last night broke his streak of 31 staright games of getting on base, and he also had another streak of 30 straight games of getting on base earlier this year.

I like Milton Bradley, but he's had one great half of one season while the rest of the guys we're debating have been doing it for several seasons now. If we're having this debate next year at this time and Bradley is still putting up the numbers I'll consider him.

As for up-and-coming, the guy is 26, he isn't some kid just up from the minors. He's been bumping around for 3 seasons now.

Beltran and Vernon Wells are the guys. Hunter's offensive weaknesses have been exposed and Edmonds, the streaky hitter that he is, will cool down or get hurt, maybe both... and he makes all those great catches because he has too, his range can't compare with the other guys.

Yes it can.Edmonds' range is as good as anyone right now.

Come on, he's 34 years old (last friday), a white boy, AND has a history of injury. I don't think that's biologically plausible.

have you ever watched Jones play? he is by far the best defensively. I want to see how they judge there little range statistic......i'm sure its real accurate. Not to mention Andruw's arm is the strongest out of all MLB centerfielders.

Keep in mind being a great defensive CF isn't just about diving grabs and homerun robbing snatches. It's also about making routine plays, judging fly balls correctly, and having a good throwing arm. Just my two cents.

My picks would have to be Wells, Beltran and Andrew...

I think that Beltran is a great overall package of a player. I mean he has played around 55 games this year and is already up to around 18 SB with like 15 HR. A great threat for the 30-30 club each year and gets slept on because he plays for the Royals. Vernon Wells is putting up incredible offensive numbers this year and there is no denying his statistics. Andrew plays in my opinion the best defensive CF in the league. Jim E, plays a good CF don't get me wrong but he isn't close to Drew.

33,he's an exception ,yes it is.

Here is a stat that PROVES his range is better.

Jim Edmonds has a better Zone rating than Andruw Jones.

Jim's is at 913 and Jones is at 825,worst among starting CF's.

ZR is The percentage of balls fielded by a player in his typical defensive "zone. Range factor is another stat that shows who has better range and Edmonds' is better than Jones'.

I know i'm using alot of stats but it's the best way to prove my point.

Agreed. And thanks for the stats.

Edmonds has enough service time that he no doubt has a superior ability to judge a situation and get that two or three step head-start to a fly ball that a terminal sophomore like Andruw Jones cannot get to. This, to me, explains the statistic.

How do the other CFs in baseball rate according to these statisitics?

I know Andruw has a slight lead on Corey Patterson in the TE statistic... (television exposure)
