Scherzer is gonna be a slam dunk. How many pitchers can say they have 3 Cy Young awards? He has as many as Kershaw. He's in truly elite company.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

I think one thing that will/needs to happen is for fans/writers/voters to realize that 200 wins is the new 300. Not that someone couldn't/won't win 300 games, but with the way the starters are used today a pitcher who wins 200 in this era is extremely impressive. Think about it; that's like a 10 year career of 20 wins/season...

IMO, pitchers in this era who are going to be in the HOF: Felix Hernandez, CC Sabathia, Max Scherzer, Clayton Kershaw, Justin Verlander, Zach Grienke, and Jon Lester. Not saying those guys are all first ballot, but I do believe at some point they will be in.

Guys I view as potentials, but would need to do more are Madison Bumgarner, Chris Sale, David Price, Cory Kluber, and Jacob DeGrom. I think Kluber, Price, and DeGrom are all a little long in the tooth, but if they were to pitch another 10-12 years I could see it.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

I'd argue that 250 is the new 300. CC will hit in this year barring injury. Next up is Verlander at 204. Still tough to reach.

Felix would have to turn it around and have a few solids years to make it in. Lester has a chance, but he still has significant work to do, and he's 35. No Cy Young hurts.

I don't count Jack Morris as a good comparable because that was the veterans committee.

CC is pretty similar to Pettitte, but I'd argue CC was better at his peak. Cy Young is a big difference. They played in different eras too, Pettitte likely has stiffer competition in that arena.

There's literally no reason that Kevin Brown shouldn't be in the hall. He had a peak from 96-2000, that was better then Maddux,Randy Johnson, and Clemens! Second only to Pedro.

Won 211 games with a lifetime 3.28 era.

And this man was on the ballot for one year. It makes no sense. Its staggering how good this guy was.

This is why I don't take the hall of fame voters seriously. It's just an injustice.

So I never saw Jack Morris play. But can somebody please me how this guy made it in?

Other then wins and a great World Series. There is nothing impressive. In my eyes there is absolutely no reason this guy should be in?

Going off of War there are about 50 plus pitchers above this guy. And I would not put the majority of them in the hall either.

I mean look at this. This is pathetic. Jack must have incriminating photos of these voters.

Kevin Brown was in the Mitchell Report, there's the reason. He also just doesn't have the counting stats we associate with HoFers for the most part so it's not surprise he didn't make it in the era he did.

Jack Morris shouldn't have gotten in, but his induction makes it easier for Pettitte so meh.

It's not really a surprise. But it's wrong. You're right on Pettite. Love that man. But I'm not biased and I personally wouldn't have voted him in.

Now with the bar being lowered significantly recently. Pettite should be a lock.

I remember the outrage about Jim Rice getting in. Now we have guys like Harold Baines and Jack Morris in.

                  Its almost funny.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Well some of those guys above and below Morris are in but there are some reasons why he's in which the SABR/analytics types really hate as Morris was a guy who pitched with a bulldog mentality. The guy never wanted to be taken out of games and he was (along with Dave Stieb) the pitcher of the '80s. He had some rings, marquee games (including a no-hitter in '84) and had 14 career Opening Day starts. (only 2 behind Tom Seaver) The bravura performance of Game 7 in 1991 was his shining moment. I think if that never happened the support he had from a lot of the old time baseball writers and fans would be nowhere as strong. He also was the first to win 20 games in a season for the Blue Jays.

Morris is one of those guys who had the look and feel of a HOFer even if his numbers at the end of the day left a bit to be desired. Some of that was due to him "pitching to the scoreboard" and his steep and precipitous decline from '93 onward.

If Scherzer were to retire today he would be in the HOF in 5 years.

Hadn't realized how close CC Sabathia is to so many milestones. Watching his numbers crawl across the screen here on MLB-N...he's going to reach 250 wins, 3500 IP, and 3000 Ks in relatively short order. He trails only Randy Johnson and Steve Carlton for K's by a LHP. Seems very HOF-ish to me.

Hot take (potentially) but Tulowitzki deserves HOF consideration. But just like Johan Santana he won't get it and will probably fall off the ballot in his first or second year.

Ehh I don't think he deserves consideration. I mean if he stayed healthy. But the guy was unfortunately made of glass and played a majority of his career at Coors field.

I will forever maintain Andruw Jones ought to get considerable consideration for being an undervalued elite player in the pre-WAR era.
