it's my understanding Perez & Dawson were less than thrilled being told by Jeter their services for the Marlins were no longer wanted.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
It's that time of the year again.
Like I said in April, who knows if anyone even gets inducted.
The entire 2021 HOF ceremony could just feature the 2020 class and that's it, and I'm sure people would be fine with that.
Given how few good options there are for 2021, that'll either really help or really hurt chances for guys like Clemens,Bonds,Schilling. Voters know that one or more of those guys will be the only 2021 inductees should anyone from that ballot get in.Comment

I'm a Bama guy first and foremost but I'm also a huge Tim Hudson fan. I'll be praying for a miracle that he garners enough votes to at least carry-over to next yearOSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Schilling, Bonds, and Clemens need to be in; would love to see Sheffield and Manny get in and Andruw Jones continue to make progress. Still pissed they didn't put Fred McGriff in; maybe he gets in down the road."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Andruw deserves to be in hands down.
Biase aside, I cant see an argument for no. His 1997-2006 is just incredible. 64.2 fWAR is easily HOF worthy.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Personally, I hope Bonds doesn't make it. But changes have to happen if voters don't elect him. All of baseball was complicit in the steroid era. There was no end in sight, until Congress stepped in. So what are the voters protecting here? The damage is done. It was an unfortunate time that hopefully is behind them. Freezing out Titans of an era is only going to compound this mistake. You want free speech?

If the Veterans Committee put Harold Baines in, I'd say the Crime Dog is a lock at some point.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
while I'm not a fan of Manferd by any means, I still prefer him to Selig, barely. any commissioner that lets a strike happen on their watch deserves to be automatically fired. as much as it pains me to say it, Pete Rozelle hung around in the NFL 10 years longer than he should have. and he's my favorite commissioner of all-time. Selig grinds my gears like no other pro sports executive ever. I'll let off him when he's no longer around to defend himselfOSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
I agree; that said, a lot of the arguments against his enshrinement have been because so much of his value came from his glove and he didn't hit "well enough" for a CF. A lot of people don't put stock into the metrics that show he was so good defensively; take that away and his WAR is a LOT lower.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
AFAIC the only commissioner that even belongs in the Hall is Happy Chandler, Selig was the worst commissioner of all major pro American sports in my lifetime, and wasn't even a ''real'' commissioner to begin with imo.

I think his successes were accidental. Expanding the Playoffs and inter-League play were decades overdue.
.. I'll take him over Manfred though. Selig may have fallen into a gold mine, but at least it was a gold mine. Manfreds can't stop stepping on landmines. Pitch clocks? 3-batter rule? Free trips to 2B? I'll listen to debate on the universal DH rule, but GTHO with the rest of that!
... the end of Sterns run is pretty high in terms of awful Commissioning.
Leaving Seattle was an absolute disaster. Loved listening to Clay Bennett p!ss and moan about his financials, due to being frozen out of the NBA Playoff this year. Wouldn't have had that problem up here, post-season or not. Leaving Vancouver wasn't much better for the NBA. And much like Selig, Stern fell back @$swards into his biggest windfall, the greatest phenomenon in sports history, while not having to do a thing to promote him, thanks to Phil Knight and Nike.Last edited by Madden08PCgmr; 11-20-2020, 11:35 PM.You want free speech?
