I'm not racists nor am I trying to sound racists, but to whoever said that MLB doesn't do a good job of marketing baseball to the black people, thats a good thing. Not that I don't want blacks playing baseball, but do you really wanna see MLB games go to an advertisment or something by using a bunch of rap music or during the 7th inning stretch have Ja Rule and Murder Inc. singing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame?" Now, by saying this I've probably made alot of people offended, and I'm sorry. But look at the NBA and how they've marketed their game. Their is a bunch of thugs out their playin ball and then goin back and smokin a bunch of weed after the game. I just don't want to see this happen to baseball. Once again, I'm not racists, my favorite players are Griffey and Bonds and many other black players, this is just my two cents.

Anyways, does anyone notice how when a white person watches a basketball game, they always say 'Hey, there's a white dude?', and the same with black people watching a baseball game? I just thought that was kinda funny.

But I hope that there will be more black players in the future. Maybe it's too hot outside for blacks ?

And BTW, jus because you are dark, doesn't mean you are African American (this is to whoever said thsat the Cards have 4 or 5 dark skinned people). I think they only do have one truly black person on their team being Kerry Robinson...

There's a pretty simple answer to this, actually.

Notice how their aren't very many strong high schools in baseball from big cities. Where I live (Dallas/Fort Worth) the best teams are from the suburbs of Arlington, Duncanville, Southlake, Plano, Carrollton, etc.

High school baseball players play baseball year-round in all sorts of fall, winter, and spring leagues. This takes a lot of money to do, as well as a lot of time and organization to put it on.

This is much like the Dominican and Puerto Rico, which play baseball year-round.

Most of the blacks that play in the major leagues grew up in wealthy suburban neighborhoods: Griffey Jr., Bonds, McLemore, Clayton, Frank Thomas, etc.

In the inner cities, what does it take to play basketball. Simple. A ball. There's courts everywhere and pickup games all day, every day. And football is more of a game of sheer strength and speed, not a game that takes the type of skills refinement of hitting a baseball.

But look out, now the Europeans are threatening to take over the NBA, too.
