    Re: Clemens in AS Game

I know it may be shady with this whole Clemens thing but if this is indeed his last year (I doubt it tho) then I don't see what's so wrong about it. Look at guys like Ozzie Smith, Mike Schmidt, Tony Gwynn and other legendary players who were on all star games because it was their last year or because the fans wanted to see them in that kind of atmosphere.

So don't be hipocritical. I'm sure in a few years from now when Griffey, Maddux, Randy Johnson, Piazza, and Schilling are in the midst of their last year someone is going to say "boy I hope _____ is on the all star team so he can have one last time to shine" etc etc.

Actually, this was one of Billy Beane's famous mid season deals. Steinbrenner paid Beane to pull Zito out.

Really sucks, Zito is my favorite pitcher to watch. Even tho he prolly wouldn't have even played, they could have at least replaced him with Hudson, Pedro, or Ponson...

Did you guys even read the article? Macha and Beane pulled Zito out, not MLB. They explained their reasoning behind it. If they wanted Clemens on in the first place, they would have selected him last week along with the others. And don't blame Clemens either- look at all these other morons who pull out of the game because they have a hangnail (i.e. Manny Ramirez). Love him or hate him, Clemens has done quite a bit for the game and has some incredible accomplishments, and being his last year, it's a nice move.

And since we're on the topic, since when is the All Star game fair anyways?

Clemens is one of the greatest pitchers ever, it's his last year, and he's having a pretty good year. If Ripken can make it in his last year, Clemens deserves it too.

Great, Clemens should be at the all star game like Ripkin was. Super. However, having players like Hudson and Pedro not on the team when guys named Carter, Foulke, and Zito who are having worse years is wrong. The big mistake was Foulke over Hudson, and now Zito is out and Hudson still isn't in?
