    Re: Clemens in AS Game

You know what, I'll relent on the issue as long as this is Clemens' last year. It's a shame the baseball fan-base will be robbed of the chance to watch one of the games brightest young pitchers in favor of an aging jackass they've already seen a hundred times over-- and see do assenine and embarrassing things for both baseball and the human race. But if this is the price we have to pay for him to retire than so be it. He just better not decide he's going to ride the Yanks for another WS ring next season, which he just might do.

This merit arguement is bullsh#t when the player replaces a better player. End of story.

Let's see him get shelled today. Go NL.

Come on, you're here to tell me that if you weren't a Yankees fan (I'm assuming you are), that you would think it's acceptable for Clemens to be in the AS game?

He didn't get voted in for a reason, and now for the league to come out and say that he'll replace Barry b/c of "health reasons" is completely insane.

Roger got in b/c the league felt bad about leaving him out. Boo-hoo. It's not like he's leaving the game on a bad note anyway...he'll be in the Hall and have over 300 wins and 4,000 strikeouts.

To make Barry sit out is totally unjust...if anybody should have to be replaced, it should be Lance Carter. No way does he deserve to be on the team.

            <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

The A's pulled Zito out of the game. Selig didn't call him up and tell him he's off the team because they need to make room for Clemens.

These things happen every year. Only reason it's an issue is because it's Clemens.

I think you're missing the point. I'm not saying Clemens deserves it over Zito (although Zito is not having a Zito type of year at the moment. His bb to K ratio is atrocious). But since Zito is out, I think this is a good choice. Clemens numbers are actually pretty good, he's leading the AL in strikeouts, etc. I don't see why this is so hard for people to accept. Except for those that label him a 'jackass' and 'a-hole' based on the Piazza incident, even though he's done quite a bit good for the game on and off the field.

I'm arguing against those that seem to be justifying Clemens' going because he's Clemens, not because of his present numbers. His present numbers are good enough, but all I keep hearing is 300 wins and 4000 ks and one of the greatest pitcher's of all time (mostly from Yankee fans), to which I reply he's an a**hole and a jackass-- because it's just as irrelevant as those hallmark numbers. Again, if this was about career numbers than why not Rickey and why not Barry Larkin, too...

But if this is the price we have to pay for him to retire than so be it. He just better not decide he's going to ride the Yanks for another WS ring next season, which he just might do.

This merit arguement is bullsh#t when the player replaces a better player. End of story.

Let's see him get shelled today. Go NL.

You're right, there's like 10 people having 8 different arguments in this thread. Here's to pointless argument...

Personally, as a Yankees fan, I'd much rather see Mussina or Wells in the game over the rocket.
