Not so fast! We still have Brian Giles who when healthy is a top 10 canidate for a few categories. Let the coutdown till Giles is traded begin. 5...4...3...2...

Yeah, I agree with the Williams and Sauerbeck deals. Brandon Lyon is a damn good young pitcher. The Martinez kid is a another power arm with 14 saves at AAA. Littlefield says he's about a year away.

I REALLY hope the Bucs can land a guy like Morgan Ensberg, but he hit his 19th homer tonight against the Bucs. Can't imagine the Astros giving him up.

Littlefield said tonight that the team "can no longer afford to build towards .500. We have to build for a championship." Get ready for Tony Alvarez, Tike Redman, J.J. Davis, Jose Castillo, Humberto Cota, Ryan Vogelsong, Duaner Sanchez, and the rest of the Nashville Sounds and Altoona Curve.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing that group of guys up in the bigs to see what they can do. I just don't see a great prospect down on the farm to take Aramis's position. Mike Gulan comes to mind (and is having an excellent year), but he's not considered a top of the road prospect.

It just kills me to see a young guy in Aramis being let go so soon...

True, but 2004 is going to be looooong year. They might just get back to that $9 million payroll from 1997.

That'll be a real sad day for me. Seeing a guy of his caliber go for as little as he's being paid in comparison to other stars.... Uggh, I don't want to think about it.

                            Pirates fans should be happy:
They get the ULTIMATE strikeout machine

At least they have someone that is in the top 10 in SOMETHING.

Not so fast! We still have Brian Giles who when healthy is a top 10 canidate for a few categories. Let the coutdown till Giles is traded begin. 5...4...3...2...

We should start a pool for when he is traded

                            My guess is July 24

Yeah, I'm sure he'll be packaged with Kendall and SD is a likely choice if they can take on the payroll for both. Both are from SD and I'm sure would like to go back. That'll be a real sad day for me. Seeing a guy of his caliber go for as little as he's being paid in comparison to other stars.... Uggh, I don't want to think about it.

                            I'm in July 27th...

                              PRESS RELEASE

The Pittsburgh Pirates continued their housecleaning late this evening by dealing outfielder Brian Giles and catcher Jason Kendall to the San Diego Padres in exchange for outfielder Tony Gwynn and pitcher LaMarr Hoyt. By acquiring the long retired players, the Pirates could place them on the reserve list, freeing up much-needed capital to pursue Rule 5 and minor-league free agents in the off-season. Padres GM Kevin Towers was so dumb-founded by the request of Gwynn-Hoyt, he agreed to take on both Giles' and Kendall's contracts and send cash in return to the Pirates to assist the organization in Dave Littlefield's psychiatric expenses.
