He threw a perfect game and deserves it; I just hope Joyce doesn't get annihilated by all baseball fans for this - he is not a bad ump, he just made a bad call.
To be honest, Joyce is actually a very good ump. One of the better ones. This was a terrible, terrible call, but he's still not a bad ump.

It's amazing to consider that we've now had 4 perfect games in two years. Thank goodness this one wasn't against the state of Florida, too!

I'm not too clear on this, but can the Tigers put in a protest and get the call overturned?

And yes, baseball SHOULD have had instant replay across the board at least 10 years ago, not just on HR calls. It's unfortunate something like this had to happen, but MLB should be lucky it's just a perfect game during the regular season, and not something like the final out in Game 7 of the World Series.

It's true that the call shouldn't be overturned though, because then that leads to every bad call being reviewed after the fact, and that would just be messy.

Jim Joyce is going to be on the MLB Network for an interview in like 3 minutes, guys. Turn there if you want to hear what he has to say.

He thought he beat the throw? WTF? In this situation you better be 100% sure that he was safe.

                Horrible call!

Huh...so you're saying if you had a chance to take a second look at it, you might've changed the call? What a novel concept.

                  Instant replay. Now.
No. He made a mistake. Replay would be horrible for baseball.

And don't say you've never been so mad in your life. You're mad 24/7.

Oh, MLBN lied to me. They just quoted him, not interviewed him. Lame.

Re: Jim Joyce, worst umpire in history.

future spoiler, here is what he's going to say...

                      "I feel so bad"

"I really thought he was safe"

"I wish I could go back and make the correct call but I can't"

                      etc

I think its pretty ridiculous to expect him to say anything else... of course this is going to be his reaction. That doesnt change the fact that he ruined a perfect game lol

[edit] so he's not doing an interview on MLB Network then? lol

oh well, like I said, why would he ever say anything differently than what he did. That doesn't change the fact that it happened

I'm actually calm now, thanks for your concern. Doesn't change the fact that you have no business, none, commenting on something you have absolutely zero knowledge about. You don't know me. We're not friends, colleagues, or acquiantances. We are complete strangers. So I'll appreciate you not making ignorant, uninformed comments like "You're mad 24/7." Thanks.

Nobody is talking about instant replay for balls and strikes, but for black and white calls like if a guy is out or not there is no reason not to have replay. How would getting black and white calls right that are obviously wrong be horrible for baseball? And don't give me it would the tired it would take too long argument, to review a call like that would take 2 minutes.

I actually didn't see the game, as I was at one of my classes, but as a Tigers fan I am still irate at the moment.

A horrible call takes away something that has never happened in Tigers history, unbelievable.

In my book regardless of what the official stats for the game say, Armando Gallaraga threw a perfect. Congrats on your perfect game, Armando.
