@ the folks that say MLB doesn't need instant replay: Why not? If the technology is there, it should be used, not necessarily on balls/strikes, that I do agree with, but on out/safe calls it should be used. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be used, other than being overly traditional. Heck even a traditional sport like tennis eventually added a replay system.

Fan(s) of the Tigers or not. For the sake of the game of baseball and what a perfect game means to me and a lot of other dedicated fans of the game too! I'm throwing myself of a bridge because I can't believe Armando Galarraga lost his spot in history.

all I can picture in my head is some guy buying MLB 2k10 the day it comes out, going into MLB Today, turning on his camera and recording the game as he proceeds to record 26 outs in a row before having his perfect game ruined on the final out on a blown call

imagine the cries of the competition being rigged that would follow... oh it would be epic

And there are people that want blown calls in the video game. Why, I ask, why?!?!?!?

About instant replay, the only way it should ever be implemented is if it can be truly instant, not like the NFL's or NBA's which stops the game for long periods of time.

If it gets the calls right, I don't see why that should be an issue. At max it would take 3 mins to get a call like that correct. The manager has a certain amt of challenges in the 1st 6 innings, then in innings 7-9 all replays are handled by the booth. It's not that radical, and at most would add 10-20 minutes to games. A worthy cause if you want to ensure that calls are right, and MLB could speed up games in other areas anyways (keeping batters in the batting box, less trips to the mound, etc).

I don't see why time should be used as a reason not to ensure that calls are correct. Like I said, imagine a call like tonight's deciding Game 7 of the World Series. It would be a serious black eye for the sport. MLB should make the change to ensure that doesn't happen, honestly the change should've been made years ago, but if something like this is the straw that breaks the back, better late than never.

Think how Jim Joyce feels. He feels terrible. It was a terrible call. He's not perfect. It shouldn't be blamed on Jim Joyce, it should be blamed on MLB for being too stupid not add instant replay. MLB and their ignorance towards instant replay are the real bad guys here.

Just talked to my dad, a lifelong Tiger fan, and he is PISSED. I rarely see him get fired up about anything, but this has him spittin' mad. He clearly isn't thinking straight because he actually said, "Something like this could keep Gallaraga out of the Hall of Fame." Whoa now, let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

He isn't absolved of blame at all. He is a major league umpire, there is no excuse for him to miss that call, plain and simple.

Saying he doesn't deserve any blame is ridiculous. So if I go into work and make a huge mistake tomorrow I deserve no blame then right?

I agree this proves major league baseball needs replay for plays like this and I know he feels terrible, but it doesn't change the fact that he screwed up horribly.
