Yeah, they say these things come in threes. I hope that spell is broken in the case of the Yankee Universe.

RIP to the greatest owner ever.

Fitting that he went out a champ.

Man, George is dominating the news here in NY. 45 minutes so far of straight Steinbrenner.

Huh, I just got something in the mail saying I won some Yankees sweepstakes. I won 2 authentic jerseys. Thanks, Boss...

Re: George Steinbrenner Dead At Age 80

I saw this come across ESPN.com while at work, and I can honestly admit that I had to take a moment to collect myself.

I have no personal ties to Steinbrenner. I'm not a Yankee fan, I'm not family nor friend of his. However I am a baseball fan. Steinbrenner was baseball, at least the business side of it. He showed other owners how to love your team unconditionally, and demand to win at all cost. Sure he ruffled feathers, and sure he was the butt of jokes, but in my opinion, not one person who had an encounter with him, made a joke about him, or even "hated" him for being the Boss of the Yankees', can honestly deny the fact that they respected him for what he did for the game.

I have much respect for the man, whom I never met, because he helped shape the game that I so truly love.

Love him or hate him...baseball lost one of the best.

R.I.P Boss.....you will forever be missed.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

No one can deny his passion for winning and the love and pride he had for the Yankees.

Re: George Steinbrenner Dead At Age 80

Tough week for the Yankee family. I despised George in the 80's and early 90's as his meddling was detrimental to the club on the field. Ironically it was his suspension from the game that allowed the Yankees to keep some of their young talent who probably would've been traded away had George still been calling the shots.

But that is neither here nor there as we lost a true giant of the sport today. It felt good to know that the owner of your favorite team put his heart, soul and money into the team and wasn't just another source of revenue for his media empire (I'm looking at you, Dolan!).

RIP Boss. I'm glad you lived long enough to see the new Yankee Stadium.

Assuming that their both in heaven, I can only imagen the conversation going on between, George Steinbrenner, and Billy Martin right about now. Said conversation will proibably end like this; "Billy Martin, you're FIRED!!!"

God probably just needed an owner to run his nastalgic, company softball team.

Heard the news on Mike & Mike this morning and goosebumps ran rampant all over my body. The Boss has left us for greener pastures and I hope he's up there watching over the baseball world he helped shape from the pressbox.

He's a great man who did great things for many people. He deserves to rest in peace along with many of our long past Yankee greats like Lou Gehrig, Mr. Sheppard, and Thurman Munson. I wish I was there to hear Martin, Steinbrenner and Munson talk about the good ole days.

                            RIP Mr. Steinbrenner

Very sad day. The man was a great owner. I loved him on SNL that one year too. Those skits were really good too. RIP Sir.

Rough week for the yankee family obviously.

The boss was all I know, I wasn't around for the rough patches in the 80's and early 90's like my dad was, so I only saw the ruthlessly succesful side of the boss. I can't describe how proud and lucky I was to have Mr. Steinbrenner as the owner of the yankees growing up. We lost a legend and an icon. RIP Boss, you will be truly and forever missed from the sport of baseball, and the yankee family.
