    Idiot Chip Caray

Watching Cubs and Dodgers, steve and Chip talking about MVP race and the bias shows all the way. Chip says Barry Bonds should be MVP over Pujols cause TODAY the Giants would be going to the postseason and the Cardinals are not. Guess Chip doesn't remember 1987 too well because with his misguided logic the Cubs wouldn't have won their last MVP. (Andre Dawson) he was even on a LAST PLACE team. Pujols is having a better season than bonds all around and he is a COMPLETE player (defensively also) all Bonds can do anymore is hit homeruns. Wonder if Chip would like to take away Dawsons MVP award "cause the CUBS wouldn't have been in the playoffs". Ridiculous!

I would have to agree with you pujols is having a possible run at the triple crown he deserves the MVP. I am not a cubs fan but i would say the giants are in trouble if the cubs win that division and face the giants in the first round. I got either Braves or giants going out in the first round and my bet is going on the giants to be one and done.

Ehh, I call him Skip Caray.

Anyways, nonetheless, Bonds is not producing the better batting average, but don't you think it's hard enough on Bonds? I mean, if you saw that baseball tonight episode where they compared Bonds with Pujols with RISP, Bonds walked like... 10 times more than Pujols did, and while Pujols had the better batting average, he also rarely got walked. Not to mention that you guys don't really know how hard it is to play knowing that your dad is fighting cancer... as he IS on the bereavement list right now, Pujols is getting more and more chances to drive in RBI's and hit homeruns. I know that homeruns doesn't mean MVP, but he is an overrated player homerun-wise, because they try to compare it with Bonds, when Bonds has SOOO many less AB's than Pujols, thereby not giving him the opportunity to drive in as many runs. Bonds is under much more pressure... they all give him curves and sinkers away and they are afraid to pitch to him... I know the chicken guy that comes out at Pac Bell whenever they walk Barry Bonds. They aren't afraid to pitch to Pujols, don't know why, but if they get equal chances to drive in the necessary runs, Bonds would crush him... not to mention his average is lower because they pitch around him... harder to hit the pitches... also because there are 3 infielders on the right side of the infield... too hard to get through that, but sometimes he manages to. Also, Pujols isn't the best OF... I mean he can play it... that's why he's a CI/LF utility player, but Bonds is a great outfielder (despite his "lack of trying") and has a great arm, and Bonds also brings speed to the club. People think Bonds is now a slow player... well, he's 100% in stealing this year, and has such a quick reaction to the pitcher's leg kick that the catcher has only attempted to throw him out ONCE this year.

So while Pujols is a hitting machine, anyone else can be one, just get the pitches that Pujols gets in RISP situations... Bonds adds more than a controlled swing though as I already mentioned. Now I don't know what making the playoffs has to do with anything, but Skip's right about Bonds being the top-dog in the MVP category.

If the Cardinals make the playoffs, and Pujols wins the Triple Crown, he still wouldn't come close to matching Bonds this year. Bonds is guaranteed the MVP unless Pujols starts getting even hotter and hits .400.

I understand that Bonds isn't seeing the same kind of pitchs pujols is. And you can also make a case that if pujols goes down tonight the cards wouldn't struggle has much on offense has the giants do without bonds. The cards would be a world series contender if they had the pitching and i still don't see the giants making a deep post season run. I don't like bonds but i'm not gonna say its a complete dispointment if he gets MVP because he makes it all happen on offense for the Giants.

Sammy Sosa won the MVP in 1998. The Hawk wasn't the last Cubby to win it. The 1998 MVP race is sort of the same situation as this year's MVP. McGwire had more homers, but Sosa took the Cubs to the playoffs and Sosa got the award. Bonds and Pujols have FAIRLY close stats, so you got to give it to the guy who is taking his team somewhere.
