The point of this whole post was commenting on Chip Caray's shortsightedness on saying someone who is not going to the playoffs is not deserving of an MVP. I apologize to the Cubs fan earlier who reminded me of Sosa's MVP in 98, probably well deserved since the Cubs went to posteason barely, I believe the Cubs lost to the Giants in one game playoff???
To the poster above,
I'm not trying to say Pujols is a gold glover, but he is capable of playing 5 positions, or 41/2 more than BONDS. The people who are saying BONDS CURRENTLY is better than Pujols defensively (and using that as criteria of why he is more deserving of the MVP) are the ones SMOKING somethin'

Not trying to be a jackass again, but in 1998 the Cubs won the one game playoff with the Giants and went on to get swept by the Braves. I doubt defense will come into play when MVP voting comes along. Plus neither one is really exceptional with the glove.

Well I know that the the Giants have been without Bonds the last week and they haven't won a single game. Granted they've been missing Durham, Aurillia, Snow, and Rueter during that same time.

As far as Barry's defense-
If you don't live in No.CA it's likely that you don't see him play the field on an everyday basis. I do, I watch almost every game and listen to the rest on radio. Dude, Bonds covers alot of ground. There are times when the ball gets over his head, but that's because of 2 things. 1. he plays shallow and takes away alot of singles. and 2. He doesn't want to have anything to do with crashing into the fence, nor do the Giants and their fans.

Which brings up a question:
Why doesn't Bonds go crashing into walls or dive head first after balls?
A: Because he's too VALUABLE!

(thanks to alt.sports.baseball.sf-giants)

2003
When Bonds plays Giants are 64-38 (.627 %)
When Bonds does not play Giants are 9 - 12 (.419 %)

In 2002:
When Bonds starts 85-54 (.612 %)
When Bonds did not start Giants were 10-12 (.455 %)

This year's numbers might be a little worse due to the rash of injuries lately.

But as a Giants fan, I can't really see Bonds winning the MVP unless Pujols falls off. Yes, Bonds is having a slightly better season, but Pujols does have better RBI/Avg numbers, and I somewhat doubt the voters will look too much past that. Add in his 30(+) game hitting streak, and unless Bonds hits 20 homers in September or the Cards & Pujols don't make it into the playoffs, Pujols is probably going to win.

Incidentally, I can't understand the personal attacks against Giant fans here. Calling fans of Bonds *ss-kissers isn't going to make your own points any more lucid, and it just makes you look ignorant, IMO...
